Default 2nd domain - any help?

Everyone know, that KW in domain name have big weight for SE. Is it helpful to buy 2nd domain and set it for the site?
E.g. I have onlinecasino.com (and compete for "online casino") and will buy internetcasino.com - will it increase my chances for getting good results "internet casino"? Of course I will get new links to internetcasino.com (or replace some old one).
If Yes, how should I use 2nd domain - as alias to the first one or as 301 redirect?

    Default Volume

A three car team is much more effective than a one man operation. Two or three web sites with 75+ pages increases your overall coverage and chances of multiple hits on a front page SERP. I don't think that similar names boost performance that much because of the mass of competition but it helps keep the copycats away.

I recently was domain searching and found www.bestsportsbookonline.com and bought it only because I already owned www.bestsportsbookonlinenow.com.
I couldn't believe someone had not bought it yet and can't figure out how I missed the shorter one in the first place. One, Duh for me.

If it were me I would either build both sites and set them to target the same keyword trying different link tactics on each. If you don't have the budget to build both you could build one, and build a smaller site on the one you don't care as much about. Since you have a site it will be easier to get some links to the smaller site, but don't go overboard building it. Once you get a few links, redirect the entire site to the other one.

I understand that 2 websites are better than one. But the question was about using 2nd domain name for the existing site and how to do it best, to gain something from SEO

Looking at the first post, it appears you want to us domain to re-direct to the main sit,,IE a "doorway" type page that search engines do not like and can possibly penalize you for if they see your goal is simply or dirrrect me traffic to another site.

You would be much better off building a good site with unique content on the second domain with heavy in content deep links to your first site rather than a 301 redirect.

    Default Hmmmm

After reading your original post again I think that you are after a reinforcing affect from the second domain "name". It probably won't affect it that much but cross linking the sites with a few common pages will certainly help.

Also the SERPs for each site will be different and you will gain the advantage of having multiple pages showing up on the same search, eventually. Be patient as this takes time to establish itself in Google.

It took about 8 weeks to start showing up when I started multiple sites and now several months later I am seeing similar pages from each URL ranking close to each other in my SERPs.

As far as my understanding is concern, a 2nd domain can be more beneficial if it is an old (aged) domain which you don't have to optimize just to gain trust from SEs. Buying old keyword domains and permanently redirecting them to the site you wanna rank high would help a lot compared to newly registered domains which you still need to exert effort to gain trust for them and pass it through the main site through redirect.
