About LinkBacksA Court of Appeals has granted a stay in Kentucky governor Steve Beshear's order to seize 141 domain names from online gambling sites.

Justice Cabinet spokeswoman Jennifer Brislin said yesterday that the cabinet was expecting the Court of Appeals order.

Allowing Ky to seize domain names has far-reaching consequences beyond simply online gambling.
Beshear says he wants to do this b/c online gambling takes money away from Ky's horse racing industry. Why can't Idaho seize domains that threaten the potato industry, or Kansas, the wheat industry.
It makes no sense to do things this way, really.Amateur

Maybe FL or NY should seize the domain names of Kentucky's Horse Racing since allowing them to operate might take revenue away from their respective tracks.

You are absolutely correct. This is about so much more than online gambling. I hope the Kentucky Court of Appeals sees it the same way.

Almost Here! How would you like to be able to get not just one sign up from your player, or even a couple, but every single casino they join from here on? I've a plan that can make that happen and it will likely also tell you every time the player is active within the casino.

I can not believe that this Gov. thinks he has the right to try and make the choice where I CHOSE to spend my money. If I want to spend the money that I earn on playing a card game in my own home rather than watching men hit and kick horses to make them run faster down a dirt track THIS SHOULD BE MY CHOICE NOT HIS OR SOME JUDGE!!!!!!!!!!! I guess this shows people of KY what He really cares about and its not what the people of KY want. I have never been ask by him or a judge if this is something that I would want. I do not think this should have made it as far as it has. If he is that worried about loosing the money then maybe he should worry about the jobs that are being lost and taken away first. If people cant work then they cant bet on horses and he should really think about that. In case he has not noticed people are loosing jobs left and right in the United States. I like playing poker on the computer but if it comes to buying food and paying bills online betting and horse races will be the very last thing I would spend my money on. GET A CLUE GOV. Im sure hes worried that any ties he may have to horses will cost him to loose money.

The Court of Appeals is set to hear oral arguments on Friday. Don't expect a ruling, though, that might take some time.

Looks like the hearing went pretty much as planned, arguments stated, no decisions yet, though the end of the article states that a ruling could come quickly.

Hard to believe Kentucky got this far. They have clearly over-reached their authority as a State - if they wish to cecede from the Union, go ahead; but they need to stop acting like they have global, sovereign authority.
