Default Is advertising less popular bookmakers more lucrative?

This question really is specifically aimed at people who have sports types websites, but in a way is relevant to people advertising casinos too.

At the moment on my tennis preview site i generally promote Bet365 and Paddy Power. They're usually the bookies to get their odds out faster than others, both have attractive odds most of the time and offer decent bonuses.

It does have to be said however that a lot of bettors do have Bet365 accounts, with it being the biggest bookie etc; so would advertising this bookie be less lucrative do you find? I'm also affiliated with Betfred, Skybet and SBOBET, but find it hard to promote these bookies with tennis due to poorer odds or them not releasing the odds quick enough.

What bookies if not these should i be trying to promote in terms of sports? I heard Coral are bad to affiliates even though most people may not have an account with them.

The smaller the company the more they will be willing to pay IMO. But a larger split doesn't mean everything if they cannt retain players

You should be promoting bookies that you USE or WOULD USE yourself.
Aim for player satisfaction and you will be rewarded with better retention and high value overall.

DO NOT get into promoting tin-pot or 2nd rate bookmakers just because tey offer you a higher share.
Readers will not thank you for a poor recommendation or advertiser.

you'll struggle to find a better affiliate team Coral, payments always early in the month, always there to help and answer questions etc.

anyway to your initial question. depends on your model, me and you have a very different model so answer will be different, for me it pays to have a lot of bookies on and a lot of smaller ones as people tend not to have accounts with them yet, so easier to convert, but my visitors tend to be activily hunting for free bets, where as your probably won't be so the lifetime value might not be very good if you send someone to a bookie that may not be on par with the top ones.

on another note, have you had a look at betvictor? their football odds are spot on so maybe tennis is the same? another decent affiliate program as well

The way I see it is you're unlikely to be knowing (when any visitor hits your site) whether they do already have an account with anyone or not, or who in fact they do have accounts with.

Of course you may be able to guess it if you have some idea of how they are arriving (where from, the keywords used in their searches etc)

You could also consider running a simple survey (with some sort of prize as an incentive to complete). Could lead to false info though, because if you suddenly got traffic from a different source, they might be a different type of punter.

I'd say best way to approach is to maintain those that have the earliest prices. If you don't want to have half a dozen perhaps have a few lines after the two or three you have up saying ' visit this page for more betting offers on the day of our matches''...which takes them to a full page just dedicated to offers...and there you can list all the majors on a permanent page titled something like 'women's tennis betting offers'

    I would mix it up:
    - One really established one like Bet365, the industry leader
    - One medium one like Coral where not as many people might have accounts yet but it's a well-known brand (great affiliate program by the way)
    - One newbie bookmaker like Winner/Betway for example, something that most people won't have yet.

By mixing it up you give yourself at least some better chance of making some early money from your business. I agree lots of people already have Bet365, but the signups you do get are worth it as they very often have the best odds, the most markets and therefore players stick with them.

Paddy Power can be a tricky one as they only have a session cookie so you need a really strong reason to promote them over something else like Coral.

There is a strong (not absolute) corelation between good affiliates and good bookies.

For a small website there is no need to have full offer of bookies. Bet365 is the best option for tennis. Other good recteational tennis bookie is Unibet (streams same as Bet365).

Besides that the other bookies should offer something that Bet365 does not and therefore it should be:
Betfair (tight in game spread; exchange)
Pinnacle (low margin; now offer challenges)
5 dimes (for US traffic; challengers in parlays)

Really no need to stick with 2nd string bookies.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++

As for Coral. I like their approach, that one can feel human and not robot there, but 2months ago they released live odds banners (tennis/soccer/racing) and they still DO NOT WORK. 1st issue is that they are on default switched on racing and there is no option to show on default tennis or soccer. 2nd problem was that soccer and tennis feeds were empty. They are now filled in but WITHOUT ODDS. And on the top of that Anthony/Coral stopped responding to me.

You can work with less popular ones but if your site is about tennis you should check to see if they have good tennis odds.

It does help to send your players to a book that they can trust.

Well all of the suggestions are good, but here are a few things you should know as a new affiliate:

Paddy - would not give you share rev on all products, just on sports. Some of the people above are old time affiliates, therefore their commission deals differ.

Betfair - you lose your exchange commission on players after the 3rd year. No the best term but it's there.

Pinnacle - because of their turnover commission structure, and some taxes you pay on deposits and bonuses, you can end up promoting for free and be in the negative. They say it happens until you "gain speed". Well while you are gaining speed, other books are willing to put $$$ in your pocket not take $$$ out.

Unibet - horrible terms just check the affiliate guard dog.

And once again you are left with bet365 and perhaps skybet, but don't know how good they are for tennis, and their primary concern is UK. So yeah I can understand u'd want diversity and perhaps promoting different books, but usually the way they treat affiliates it's the way they treat customers as well.

Once again, other affiliates may have different opinion on the books above, but i believe there's a big difference between old time and new affiliates when it comes to terms and treatment. Coming from the path which you are on right now, i believe what you have right now is your best bet for a long term business strategy.

Bet365 are good but you will want to try your best to balance your traffic with other brands. If bet365 closed their affiliate program tomorrow then you would be out of business

it depends on your targeted markets but you have definitely the best brands on your site. I prefer to focus on maximum 5 brands to promote more. For the uk market I think bet365 is the best .. for the german speaking marketing I would say bet365 as well and betvictor or tipico and interwetten. I donīt have any experience with coral so far.

they are not best affiliate around, but I am lucky to have the old terms unchanged, recently solving another problem with unibet.fr

however: the main issue at AGD - which is the uncertain problem with tracking where is not ceratin if the registration must be immediate or after 30 days - was answered by Unibet rep. that cookie duration is standard 30 days and currently Unibet is working surprisingly well for me in last 3 months

I simply do not know second bookie like them for casual European tennis bettors (except bet365).

Hey link22, mind if I ask what your site is? I have a tennis site I've just released as well and I'm wondering if there is any potential for sharing traffic.

    Best of luck,
