    Default advice for an ad.

Someone sent me a message from my contact us form saying that he want to put an ad in my site and he ask me if I'm interest in selling him the space. If I'm targeting for some kw it will be advisable to sell him an ad space? Advices will be appreciate it.

    Hi Felku,

I'd stay away from it if I where you.

I haven't really got any evidence to back this up as I've never sampled with this, and I probably never will. I think of it this way, search engines are looking to rank what they regard as the best sources for the user query, a strong factor in this is undoubtedly referring links and the anchor text they contain, which acts as a vote of confidence to say the relevant content on that page is credible. Now why would search engines want to rank your site higher than the site which you are saying holds great information on the subject? Surely they would put it first?

It could go the other way, search engines could see your site as a great referring source and rank it highly, although I wouldn't take my chances. I'd also stick away in case you get penalised for selling links.

    Cheers
    Dave

Thats what I thought but it was tempting considering that my site buy now makes $0 but now I'm starting to gain ranking in serps and I don't want to risk that.

Glad to hear your rankings are improving, stick at it, you'll make 100 times more ranking for a keyword than selling a link for it in most cases - don't do anything which could risk sabotaging that
