I have a gutsy VPS. Hence, I have access to php.ini files etc., etc. Aside from using the tips I added, I also implement other layers of security. Reiterating, most affiliates use shared hosting, which depending on what your using/running, can cause adverse speed issues, which ultimately will affect Google rankings. If using WP security plugins are your only option, then your best bet, is to obtain the fastest hosting/resources you can afford.

We solved the problem like this: We went to our VPS, as well as the sites were transferred to statics. Pure html

I've been using it for a year now. Sometimes it misses some kind of spam, but does not publish it for auto-moderation. So to what I would recommend. https://wordpress.org/plugins/antispam-bee/

Rather then use a plugin to block comment spam such as antispam-bee, turn off auto approve, if comments are enabled at all, end of spam being approved without looking.

Or at the least, disable the approval if comment contains links, since almost all spam and the entire motivation for the spam, even when disguised well, is all about the link.
