Sandra has confirmed that the tracking is based on cookies, without duplicate tracking mechanisms.

Good point. Yes, I've heard cookie stuffing was a much more serious problem in the past. I think some of it still goes on today. It sounds like the big change that reduced this was affiliate programs switching to overwritable cookies, which mean the last referrer gets the credit rather than the first referrer. Even with overwritable cookies, cookie stuffing could still result in a program paying affiliate commissions on referrals that were sourced through non-affiliate means, so programs themselves are not entirely protected, but the overwriting at least protects affiliates.

Default What does ACF have to say?

All I know is that while this discussion has been going on, nobody on their part has come up to defend their own position, except through third parties that investigated the matter...Where are they?

This is a good question, I am surprised there has not been any response at all from ACF Webmaster themselves.

    Default "Fire in their Hair"

My dad told me this story about a boy whom was stealing from the villagers. One day, the local priest, during mass, told out load to the village crowd during a cerimony "someone has been stealing money from the church pot, and God will punish him by his hair catching fire." Well, the guilty boy, starting reaching for his hair to see if it was burning, thus the priest was able to see who the bandit was.

Well, these guys have "fire in their hair" which is why they don't stand up and take a defensive position.
