Affiliate Manager Salary at an operator. South Africa

Hello everyone,

Wanted to find out if anyone could offer some insight into what Affiliate Managers earn working for an operator. I’d appreciate some feedback regarding the South African igaming space eg..Hollywoodbets, Betway, World Sports Betting, Yesplay, Easybet, soccersho, BetFred…

I know that some affiliate managers earn commission on top of their basic monthly, does anyone know how the commission is structured? 5% GGR from your affiliates etc…

I'd imagine that any commission would be based on new depositing players seeing as the focus from affiliate managers is pretty universally on that metric.

I've known quite a few AM in SA and none of the ones I've spoken to would get a commission on top of their monthly basic. You might see that at some of the smaller sites but the big / medium ones don't do that. The salaries will start around 25k ZAR pm depending on experience and so on. AM in SA also tend to move on very quickly, most don't last more than a year or 2 in a company in that position from my experience.

There might some some yearly incentive that counts towards a KPI bonus based on commission, but I doubt it would be based on GGR, NGR perhaps, but it'd need to be from new players. FTD's in South Africa are not hard, but the player value is very low, so any incentive there would be tough for a manager. Hollywood for example need you to hit 300 FTD's a month as an affiliate to get 25% rev share.

AM in South Africa do very, very little in my opinion and experience, there are a few really good ones, but they are usually decision makers, who can help roll out ideas etc quickly. These days I find that all the AM does is send me an amount to invoice, or a generic mailer once in a while, they aren't very proactive. I'm sure they are dealing with lots of other queries from new affiliate and so on though.

Would you be able to share which site you are currently at? My advice for growing is to learn what it is that make individual affiliates money, and seeing how you can help them grow. I get way too many generic emails and "cool" offers to promote when that's not going to really help me as an affiliate. Building good relationships with the affiliate also goes a long way, as well as making bespoke promotions and so on, that are exclusive to that affiliate.

Another big thing is to have a good relationship with your rentention marketing team, one thing many local AM's forget is that an affiliate usually has a reach that only goes so far. I'm often asked to send more depositing players as an example, yet it's something that is mostly out of an affiliates control.

It will be tough at a medium / small betting site in SA unless they have a really good product and funding, as the market is saturated at the moment, and as an affiliate I've been burnt by smaller sites many times, so have become very selective as to which sites I'll work with.
