    Default Affiliate Redirection links

    I have noticed a lot of sites either direct automatically to the affiliates site using the tracking links.

    But some use a direct page -

    so for example -

    mydomain.com/betfair-offer

    Is this a simple 301 redirect that is setup ?

    Some appear with a page that informs your of the redirection. Which appears for only a few seconds.

    This is asked every few months.

    Some people do this as a 301 redirect.

    Some people have a page with a refresh that directs the traffic to the affiliate link.

    Some people use a database program like fastclick.

    The method I use is fastclick. It is a simple php program that stores the links in a mysql database, and counts all clicks.

    If you ever need to change a link, you log in to the admin interface, change the link and that link is now directed to the destination of your choice for that variable site-wide.

    Whether you use fastclick, or the refresh redirect method, be sure to add the fastclick folder or the folder where you will placing the redirects to the robots text exclusion list.

    "Some people have a page with a refresh that directs the traffic to the affiliate link."

    Could you give me some insight in how to set this up ?

    Is fast click a free program ?

    I am considering integrating this with google analytics.

    I know this thread is a month old but I thought I would answer your question regarding refresh in case you still wanted the answer.

    On some sites, I use meta refresh for all of my affiliate links for a couple of reasons. One is to clean up the link and use mysite.com/casino/xyzcasino.html instead of xyzcasino.com/casinolink.aspx?btag=BanAff897.grc_txt_USD04&cid=g rc, and two because some people will type in xyzcasino.com and bypass your affiliate link altogether.

    The first thing you do is create a folder such as casinos. Next, you create a file called xyzcasino.html. In this file you will place your affiliate link to xyzcasino such as this:

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>XYZ Casino</title>
    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;URL=http://www.xyzcasino.com/?c=5520&s=275txt">
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    You then save this file in the folder casinos you just created.

    Next, when linking to xyzcasino.com from your site you simply use yoursite.com/casinos/xyzcasino.html instead of your affiliate link.

    This makes your URL's look much cleaner and if you use yoursite.com/casinos/xyzcasino.html on several pages and they ever change the link, all you have to do to update it is change the 1 file xyzcasino.html and it updates your whole site with the new link and saves you from manually changing each and every link to xyzcasino.

    The 0 in the code is for 0 seconds and means as soon as the link is clicked the page refreshes with the new URL. It could be changed to a different number but should stay at 0 in my opinion so the visitor usually doesn't even notice the delay.

    I hope this make sense and was what you were looking for.

    Default great answer

    thanks for that answer gamblersheaven you have really hit the nail on the head for me and answered in east to digest sections .

    That all makes great sense .

    One question I have is the following you mention the 0 seconds which I understand is probably the best way to go with this.

    But if on that screen I wanted to place a this page is redirecting you. I have noticed some sites have a flash graphis that rotates for example.

    Does anyone have one of these or can point me out to a designer.

    It would be cool to test both for conversions.
