there are a few affiliates that work with bookies , so should not be a deterent
It will depend on the bookies views of course, but getting experienced affiliates into their business can't be a bad thing

From experience working with others that used to be affiliates and then moved to the other side of the fence I think there is a strong case for a conflict of interests if your friend got the job and was to continue promoting the bookie where he works on his site. It should possibly be ok for him to continue working on his site and not promote the operator where he works although he should definitely check this out. The insight your friend has should prove to be very valuable. Good luck to him!

Thanks Sarah for your replay, I also see a clear case of conflict of interest and also it might be against company ethics to work for one bookmakers and promote others , I think it should be fair for him to tell the truth and not try to hide the websites he owns ,if asked in the interview.
