Default Affiliates Need Better Access to APIs

We work with many affiliates and operators and understand the all-around frustration regarding access to data and APIs. Although things may be slowly getting better, the implementation of APIs is far behind and not keeping pace with the times. Far too many operators don't offer them; they may be planned in the future, or quite often not even on their radar.

As AI is rapidly changing how we operate, it is disappointing that so many programs still do not provide API’s for their data. Some don’t even provide proper reporting, and affiliates are forced to rely on CSV reports. These APIs are so important for affiliates to help manage their data and integrate it into automation, analytics, and decision-making.

Without these APIs, affiliates (and everyone) are forced to use inefficient, manual workflows. These old workflows hinder the value of the data in a timely manner.

There are so many programs that don’t provide API’s and risk becoming obsolete as AI, agents and automated processes evolve. Affiliates are getting frustrated by the limitations of operators that are not keeping up with the times.

If operators can’t keep up with the times, you have to ask why and possibly consider which ones are best to work with.

    I welcome your thoughts.

I sometimes wonder if it is about being outdated, about costs, or the benefits of affiliates not having accurate and easy-to-manage data.

I also find that quite a few do not have APIs and some of them exclude information from their API (for example, Royal Partners shows Net Revenue, but doesn't show commissions numbers even though the API from the provider has that capability).

You are 100% correct, at this stage of the game - APIs should be required. For me - if a program doesn't have one, I do not promote them. I do not want to have to check individual stats like I had to do in the early 2000's

Curious how much cost plays a factor in the availability of API access.

What are the costs for allowing unlimited API calls? I assume they are different depending on the affiliate platform the brands are operating on?

Totally agree, at this stage API's should be standard practice and include all the necessary data. API's eliminate many issues and will save so much time in getting the data.

There are certainly costs involved; however, these days it's the cost of doing business. Unfortunately, some users will abuse API calls, and they can be quickly identified and addressed. Proprietary software may not often offer APIs, but it is improving. From major software platforms, they all have it, you may need to request. One in particular does not like to advertise that they have it.

Myaffiliates, Affilka, ReferOn, IncomeAccess, Affise, MAP, CellxPert, Netrefer (blah), IncomeAccess (blah) all have them. Is there a bigger one hiding it?

Completely agree. In 2026 it’s honestly wild that some operators still expect affiliates to run serious businesses using delayed CSV exports and basic dashboard screenshots instead of proper APIs.

The biggest issue isn’t just convenience anymore сause it’s scalability. Modern affiliates are building automated reporting, AI-driven traffic optimization, fraud detection, LTV analysis, and real-time campaign adjustments. None of that works efficiently when data access is locked behind manual exports.

What’s even stranger is that operators benefit too. Better APIs usually mean affiliates send higher-quality traffic because they can optimize faster and react to performance in real time. Everyone wins when the data flow is structured properly.

For me, API availability has already become part of evaluating a program. If a company still treats reporting like it’s 2015, it raises questions about the rest of their infrastructure as well. The industry is moving toward automation whether operators are ready or not.

Completely agree. In 2026 affiliates still having to manually download CSVs feels crazy. APIs shouldn’t be treated like a premium feature anymore — they should be standard infrastructure.
The operators investing in proper API access, automation and real-time reporting are going to massively outperform the ones still stuck in legacy workflows.

if they have at least a dashboard available to them, some browser automation makes data extraction trivial, fwiw.

We are gradually stopping working with operators who cannot give us API access to their data. A simple xml suffices, but we really need to automate reporting and enact smart actions based on it, and we can't keep relying on manul login access for data.

I 100% agree and it's not even that hard to build. Heck Ai can have it built in under an hour.
