    Default ALT codes? Whuh?

    Hi all-

I was screwing around with my site tonight, working on SEO (which I still don't know much about), when I stumbled into a thing called ALT codes which apparently can help one's SEO efforts. Can someone tell me what these codes are, and why they're useful? Any responses would really be appreciated.

    Thanks!

alt tags are associated with images. when you put the mouse over an image, and the text dialog shows, that's the alt tag.

    img src="image.gif" alt="some text here" border="0"

    (I left the <> out)

The equivalent for a text link is a title tag. Add it inside the anchor string along with the target tag.

Alt tags are the text behind images/pics/banners, like Casinoglen said. They're on the net to aid the visually impaired and are a considered factor in many SE's ranking formulas.
