    Default Amtrak Auto Train

Has anyone here ever taken the autotrain either north or southbound on the east coast of the US?

I am considering a trip (south bound) on it in the near future, and would like to talk to anyone that has done this in the last few years.

I just have a handful of simple questions for tips and ideas.

    Stuff like,
"what would you different if you took it again?"
"what do you wish you would have taken that you did not?"
"faq's say they have wifi, anyone know if they have spots to charge laptops and phones?"

At some point I will put together a list of questions to call and ask, but figured it would make sense if I could find anyone with experience with it in recent times.

Looking at the numbers, it is not hugely more expensive then the fuel it would cost to drive the 900 miles the train avoids, but since I will likely make the trip alone, it might actually be slightly safer for me....and would probably reduce speeding tickets in at least ONE state....LOL (I get out there on 95, I don't like to mess about)

The point of origin, Lorton, VA (just south of DC) is only a few hundred miles from where I would be starting out anyway, and destination of Sanford, FL is less than 50 miles from my final destination, so I will most likely be choosing this.

I cant answer your questions....but i would take a normal express train...and rent a car at the destination point.

900miles are 1500km.....u would spend the half day in a train...

I am flying north and transporting a car back, so I either drive it, ship it, or use the Auto Train.

I have a little more time before the trip is planned, as I keep looking at various weather channels and keep seeing the news stories of that really crazy little white frozen flake stuff falling out of the sky, and just can't see myself having to put on long sleeves and warmer clothes right now, let alone risk having to drive a few hundred miles in that white stuff, I heard it makes people cold and say crazy things like BRRRRRR

Unfortunately I can't help you with your questions as I have never done the trip myself. But enjoy your trip and safe travels!
