    Default Average bounce rates

Not sure if this is the right category for the post but I am interested to see other portals typical bounce rates.

Anyone care to share some stats?

i had a terrible 60% bounce rate for a long time. I now have some months or periods i have around 30% but i do have spikes sometimes reaching 50% at days.
On my sites using wordpress my bounce rate is smaller for some reason i cant understand but its a general trait.

I think the significance depends on the type of content and niche. My bounce rates have been around 80%. It may seem high, but I keep the information concise and easy to read. Since the revenue is fine, then I am not too concerned with the bounce rate at the moment.

I also consider where my traffics usually came from. If my traffics are mostly from SEs and have high bounce rate then I must take care of it seriously. It could only mean that most of my traffics are not finding my portal persuasive enough for them to visit/subscribe often.

    Hello,

our bouncing rate is around 0.30 to 1% . Very important IMO is the content. Good content makes people(even if they aren't extremely interested) to stay on the website. This is the key. Also links in totally unrelevant websites pointing in yours could easily fire up your bounce rate.

Can someone explain this bounce rate thing to me. If one of my visitors clicks on an affiliate link on my site and goes to lets say clubusacasino.com, would that be defined as a bounce?

    No.

bounce rate is actually how many people enter on your site and close the window or tab. Maybe i'm wrong but i think this is it.

According to Wikipedia, "A bounce occurs when a web site visitor leaves a page or a site without visiting any other pages before a specified session-timeout occurs....A commonly used session timeout value is 30 minutes[2]. In this case, if a visitor views a page, doesn't look at another page, and leaves his browser idle for longer than 30 minutes, they will register as a bounce. If the visitor continues to navigate after this delay, a new session will occur."

I wouldn't take bounce rate too seriously if your revenue is ok. It can actually mean the exact opposite: the visitor just found the exact info he was looking for on my page and clicked away to a casino/bingo.

If your revenue/clickthrough rate is low though compared to the visitors you get and at the same time your bounce rate is high, then but only then I would take a really closer look at why they abandon your site.

This is what I was getting at. I thought my ultimate goal was to get my visitors to bounce to a gambling site via my aff link, so I didn't understand why anyone would be shooting for a low bounce rate. Kind of threw me through a loop there!!!

If a bounce occurs when a visitor sticks to one page of the site only, then I wont have any problem with the following scenario.

Someone finds through SE search one casino review page on my site, stays there for a while and leaves my site by clicking on the casino banner.

If this definition of bouncing is true, I would prefer a 100% bounce rate.
