Default AWS FTP Transfer to my computer

    Believe me i googled it!

Does anyone know how i can take an FTP transfer to my computer from AWS?. While the host tells me the website is running, it's not!

My problem is my technical guy is on holiday for the next two weeks, and we apparently don't have support from AWS. I just want to take a quick back up before i start clicking everything!

    Thanks in advance

First thing you want to do is FTP the entire site down to your computer (hopefully you have already done this)

If you can not get ftp access, you could always use some sort of site backup or site download tool, but be careful as a few of those will add extra characters to page names or folders.

If you have custom scripts or programs written utilizing AWS services or programs, moving the site(s) could be problematic.

If you have any databases also attached, you should get get sql dumps of those immediately as they are very important to get backed up.

If you have not made any additional progress, let me know and I will see if I can help or recommend someone that can.

side note: When your regular tech gets back, you might want to discuss with them their normal backup procedures or other functions you can perform to make sure you are covered if anything like this occurs again in the future.

Thanks Universal4 for taking the time to write- At least we got a reply out of AWS, but asking us if we had changed anything in the console. We really haven't done anything, so i was deeply concerned we had been hacked. However, that doesn't appear to be the situation, and we are hopeful that AWS will find a solution. In the meantime, securing the database is going to be priority, so i'll look through my alternatives for getting that sorted!

    Thanks again

This is message i received from AWS - Is that even possible without logging into your account, or is it a way to charge me even more for support and adding a new VPC.

What i do know is this is one big headache, so time to find a new host!

We cannot see what our customer are using our resources for and this limit's us with situations like this here in accounts and billing but I went through your case checked your account and found that you have deleted your default VPC in EU (Dublin) region and your EIP is not attached to the instance running on your account.

Thanks for that - i will look into it!

All they seem keen on is selling me another service, doesn't seem right when what they are saying is clearly wrong!

Well, if they are saying your VPC has been deleted, can they pull in a backup for you?

Maybe you should try and escalate the tech issue if you can and talk to someone about getting it restored.

Thanks for taking the time to write - Appears sorted for now! - I received a message telling me the AWS techs said everything was good from their end, and i need to look at the configuration. Woke up this morning, and the site was working !

I'm convinced it was the fault of AWS - but other than that AWS have always been reliable!
