    Default AWS hosting or change?

    Thinking of changing host!

We have been using AWS hosting for the past couple of years. I don't have anything bad to say other than AWS takes a lot of understanding and it is a bit pricey!

I rarely see members of this forum using AWS, so i wanted to ask your thoughts on changing host. We are just about (today/tomorrow) to replace the old Laravel site with a Wordpress (just easier for us) version, so it's like a now or never!

As with that US TV show - what would you do?

    Grateful for any thoughts!

If you go with Wordpress we always recommend our customers using WP Engine.

They benefit with - premium WP support, easy dev>staging>production environments management/deployment, CDN, cache, others

They're not the cheapest web out there (compared to SG, GOdaddy, etc), but are really the best one in my opinion.

With AWS all the deployments are pain in the *ss, technical support almost 0.

    Good luck!

WPX. Migrated from SG about 3 weeks ago (they did the migration), it halved the speed, they include their own CDN, set up other optimization stuff etc

Support on a few problems (that I caused ) has been fast and precise. There's possibly something not good somewhere, but not found it yet!

Thanks - not an alternative i had considered. I'm assuming no problems with gambling, and easy to upgrade?

Interesting that you migrated from SG because on earlier threads that hosting appears to be preferred by many.

A few years back now, but when I offered my services to speed up WP sites, I'd always recommend SG (siteground) as a decent, fast shared-hosting option. IDK what's happened over there, but SG doesn't seem to be performing as well as it used to.

I'm with knownhost.com been with them since 2016.

Have a gutsy VPS (SSD), which also runs litespeed.

Support tickets are answered within minutes. Can't complain, Known Host are top notch, with fast speeds, and fair pricing.

    Thanks for sharing!

I was looking through a few old posts and noticed you had mentioned SG, but like with this business thing's are constantly changing and that's why i thought it wise to ask!

Yes SG were highly rated....but gone downhill (especially from server side speed perspective). And that's mega important, it it hadn't been for that I wouldn't have switched.

And to illustrate how bad it was....I had just paid 3 years in advance before I realised the speed their end was no good!! And when I questioned it with support they just blamed my theme/code.

You'll be able to find a number of hosting reviews that will show how far they've dropped compared to others. WPX was/is close to the top of the list of who's good now (but of course there are others).

I am on SG too and have noticed that I am getting a whole lot of page speed errors that I had not seen before. Time to look at other hosting solutions so appreciate this thread.

If you are on SiteGround it's worth looking into configuring their SG Optimizer plugin very well (it's their own caching, JS/CSS minimizer etc. solution). It can provide 2x/3x speed improvement if it's setup well and you can get rid of many third party caching plugins.
I have 3 hosting packages with them, the GoGeek package still beats most other host's value/performance ratio. Although there are faster ones out there for sure but it can be more pricey.

If someone is a bit more technical and familiar with terminal commands, SSH - DigitalOcean VPS $10/month droplet + ServerPilot control panel combo is a very good choice. The performance / price ratio is unbeatable and with the Serverpilot config you have email support at hand and the latest server updates always applied to your environment automatically, optimized for Wordpress.

Siteground is decent but pricey in my opinion. I got hooked with the 50% off for the first year.
