Default Can somebody clarify a couple of things?

If an afilliate site says something like this in their terms (Betfred is purely for an example)

"You cannot purchase or bid for keywords which include the word Betfred or variations of Betfred. This includes misspellings of our name."

What does this mean? Does this mean you are not allowed to user their name at all in Backlink anchor texts? or does it just mean you couldn't, for instance if you used "BOOKMAKER NAME] free bet" as an anchor text, is that not allowed?

    Someone please clarify,

It refers to PPC (pay per click) campaigns using Google Adwords, MS Adcenter etc.
Interested in quality, relevant link exchanges and deals, especially with UK sites.

all standard these days - and it looks like brand bidding could be legally enforced in the next year or two after the recent Interflora case (EU has ruled in favour of Interflora in the brand bidding case against Marks & Spencers) The full judgement is here.

TLDR - Interflora had argued that M&S shouldn’t be allowed to bid on the keyword “interflora” via Adwords and it seems that the European Court agrees with them.

The ruling is good news for brands because it could spell the end of controversial brand bidding in the UK, if the High Court in London decides to uphold the EU Courts ruling.

    cheers

I notice William Hill on that list, i removed them from my site because of their selective tracking. Now whenever i type monsterbet or monsterbet.co.uk into google, they are the only adwords advertiser. A little bit naughty me thinks, they say one thing but do the other.

Could it be the ´bet´ part of the search that´s bringing them up?

What if you used "[BOOKIE NAME] FREE BET" as an anchor text on a directory deep link, thats not the same as ppc is it

I wouldn't have thought so otherwise it would bring others up, imo they are deliberately targeting both 'monsterbet' and 'monsterbet.co.uk' as they know i have removed them from my site. Bit of a pointless exercise though as there is probably only me that types those in.

Then click on them - and make sure that their ROI on the keyword is so low that they stop bidding on your website name

A few months ago I had nextag using my retail site domain name as an adwords ppc keyword and I emailed them and they stopped using it.

buycheapr is also using it but they're located out of the USA and ignored my request.

It means that Betfred invests on its brand name Betfred and if you use it the price of it increases in terms of PPC in Google AdWords.

I know you're probably joking, but just in case someone thinks that's a good idea - Google will quickly identify it as click fraud and associate your I.P. address with that click fraud, and if you're logged in to any Google service (gmail, google webmaster account, etc) then they'll associate the fraud with you personally even after your I.P. changes. I haven't heard of penalties for being associated with click fraud but you probably don't want to take that risk... Also it wouldn't achieve the goal of costing the advertiser a lot since Google would not keep charging the advertiser for a large number of clicks from a single I.P.

at some point it will probably become standard that a program will put in there terms you cannot bid on their brand keywords. google loves the income from this so they don't care to list the brand at the top.
