[B]How to become successful poker player?[/B]
Poker is a game that does not have any house edge so your success depends only on your skills and of course partially on the luck you have. This means that by learning how to play you can defeat your opponents and you do not have to have so much luck. Let’s sum up some basic steps that can help you to become a successful poker player.
[B]1) Proper bankroll management[/B]
It is really important that you can stay calm and don’t have to worry about that you are rapidly running out of money. This means two things: First you should play with money that you can afford to lose. Poker is still gambling and if you betted money that you need then you could end up in a difficult life situation. The second principle defines an optimal amount of money that you need to be able to play comfortably. This depends on the big blind or if you like on the buy-in. You should have at least 25 buy-ins and optimally 40 which means that you should be able to place big blind at least 750 times (it naturally depends on the variant you play). If you don’t meet those conditions you should find a table with lower height of big blind.
[B]2) Being disciplined[/B]
To become a great player you should be disciplined which means you should have some exact plan about how long are you going to play, on which tournaments you are going to take part, when you are going to have a free time and of course when you are going to educate yourself. A long experiences confirmed that if you don’t fulfil your plan once then it will happen more often. And you must be psychically and financially able to deal with long-term losses (it doesn’t mean that you can be losing the whole year because then there’s somewhere a problem you should solve), otherwise you could make imprudent steps.
[B]3) Making better decisions than average players[/B]
Easier said than done but it is not as impossible as it sounds. You should be able to estimate your odds and to recognize when your opponent in lead is. This requires at least basic knowledge of card combinations, of estimating probabilities and getting known your opponents, you should try to observe them and to predict their next steps. After some time you will be able to tell if the other players are bluffing BUT don’t rely absolutely on it. Just a little advantage can make you belonging to the better players at the table and this is what can make you a winner.
[B]4) Don’t live just for poker[/B]
As it was said in point 3, you should have a plan how much time you are going to spend by playing poker. Yes, if you want to become a professional player then you must play really often and spend a lots of time on educating yourself but you still should have time for other activities like being with your family, friends, some sports and so on, just according to your individual preferences. Just to make sure that you don’t waste your life by just playing poker and not having time for the rest. And there still is a danger that you will start being bored by playing poker and that’s what you should try to evade.
[B]5) Having a positive relation to money[/B]
There’s not much to add to this statement. You should love money in order to aim for obtaining them. But again – nothing should be exaggerated!
