Default Facebook- Circles - what are your thoughts?

    Hi
Just wanted to see if anyone has any opinions on Google launching "Circles" in a bid to compete with the "Book of Faces"?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1366036/Google-Circles-launch-May-Could-Facebook-met-match.html

Anyone got any thoughts on this - anyone using Circles profiles yet?
    Keen to hear opinions
    Thanks
    Lee-Ann

Man, Google, stop it. What is the urge to take over the world?

I was initially sceptical after the Google Buzz cockup and because Facebook is so popular. However if you belive what you read, they are supposedly doing something that Facebook doesn't and lets face it, you can never rule Google out of any equation.

The clever bit IMO is the fact you can create "circles" of friends and keep them seperate, something you need multiple Facebook accounts for. I love that idea but I guess it will depend on a) what else it has that make it worthwhile and b) how many people sign up. These things tend to be catch22 - you need people to attract other people.

WIll be interesting though if it all comes off.

If Google circles (if it will ever come to actuality), with the main purpose of allowing you to create different circles of people you know, the idea is not unique of them, but already is on Facebook's board. If I am not wrong, facebook has this feature to group your friends by relationship. ex. family, workmates, schoolmates. You can simply segregate friends according to what they are to you with this feature, is not that creating circles of related individuals? But, if google has twists on this, it might appear differently, else it would be nothing, but a copycat and will eventually shy off the competition.

Keeping up with friends on Facebook is enough work. I really don't think a point of difference as simple as these "friend circles" will be enough of an incentive for people to manage two accounts with the same "friends". Google seems to be trying to lead in too many markets.

What's up with Google now? I see they are trying to top almost all that's famous for the net, but it's not good at all to be like Facebook. Google has established a name as a search engine, and there they have to focus.

If ever it gets on the circulation, I wonder if they can really beat facebook.. and one thing more, this might only mess up their reputation when we talk about originality.. If Google is about to beat facebook, then they must think of their own unique way and not creating something which is also inspired by Facebook..

They have some serious catching up to do if they want to come close to Facebook's numbers:

    • More than 500 million active users
    • 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day
    • Average user has 130 friends
    • People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook

Wow! I always knew Google had high ambitions but this is just ridiculous, just shows you that they are really trying to take over everything! Who knows how well they'll compete with Facebook, they have to convince all the Facebook users that its not a hassle to switch over/have 2 accounts... I think it is a bit of a hassle!
