I prefer to build it myself. Reading, researching and seeing what works is all part of the fun and the learning experience for me. Many years ago I hired a designer/programmer to build a unique site/script for me to power a dating site that I was running at the time. When he had finished the job, he set up a demo site and offered the script and design to others as well. So be very careful who you choose to work on your site.

Flytonic themes are a great way to start.
Personally, I prefer per job settings, but of course that depends on the cost and the budget.

Also Protheos is a nice theme for casino or slot review sites. It's less functional compared to Flytonic, but the design looks better. In my opinion.

My personal opinion about the subject is for you to do it yourself.
Now I do have in mind that someone else (a professional) will surely do a better job than you and of course if you do it yourself it will take a lot and I mean a lot of time to have a fully working site.

The good part is along the way you will learn a lot because nowadays, you will definitely find an answer for anything you need by searching on google on YouTube. You don't need to be a coding genius to have a website perfectly working.
Your cost would stay to a minimum, because you will need to pay just for the theme and hosting plan. Then you on working.

However, if you have that much to spend for a professional to do the job, and you also have enough resources and a good marketing plan once your site will be launched, them you can consider paying someone for the job.

I built my first website myself with exception of paying the designer to set up the template but as we grew we hired new employees .It got to one point i felt disconnected from my own network so we scaled down the employees and got more hands on with things.Interestingly the best two sites we have in terms of traffic and earnings were build 100% by owners because when you put some heart and soul into something you enjoy results seem to show over the sites who were done by people earning a paycheque.A couple months ago I kicked everyone off while I built the structure back up to my standards ,it means 90 hour weeks again for me but even if you pay others you still need to claim ownership and put yourself into your business and your brand.

Surely i would have at least involve in developing the website as maintenance can be tough if you don't understand single bit of it.

You can get some favorite plugin like Wordpress to be installed, otherwise you can also get them to create your own CMS panel to enable you change the content easily.

The gooneer made a really informative post.
I think however this more of a "strategic" question/decision.
The main point here is not the technicalities, but the important decision between these two options:

    • Do it myself -have full control and limit cost
    • Have someone else do it - spend money and gain much needed time to focus on other aspects of the business

I believe the second option is best, but you need to find the right professionals/assistants to help you, which is a hard quest in itself.
    So the dilemma remains.

Agree with the above post. It's a dilemma, but is great if you can find the right people to work with you. The amount of time that can free up for you is fantastic as you can focus on strategy and marketing and let someone else do the nitty gritty hardcore dev work.

I think you're taking the right approach though to start with, a Flytonic theme and pay a freelance developer to tweak it for you, I'd always try to agree price for a job though rather than pay for time.

I agree. A little note on the first one: if you're having the skills to do so. If you're not having the technical skills to solve issues, anyway you'll need to call in people who know how to solve issues at your website, etc.

I know the basic things, but that's all. If you're not having somebody for these things, it's always a hassle to find the right people for solving little issues at your website. Also for a website - in my eyes - it's not good if many different people with all their own style (and some even with not a good style) work on it.

Good point - there are different levels of issues. For example geotargeting is much more complicated than a simple theme modification.

Can some create high-quality website with great designs, useful contents and manage all the partners in one? I don't know a person like this, everyone outsorces at least some areas. And if you really wanna grow, you will ultimately only have time to manage the business, so giving out areas straight away is better.

I agree, but it is still a gamble (no pun intended) because when you start you don't have enough money and mainly you don't know if the site will succeed eventually.

Every successful business person at one point or another had to take that gamble though.

You must save some money from your 'real work' at the start and put this into the business - and be fully prepared for that money to possibly not come back to you.

True, but to the right people. So far it's quite difficult to find the right people. The righ people usually do this things for themself and outsource other things to other people.
