    Default Betfair introduces iPhone app

"There's an app for that." You've heard the phrase uttered a million times if you've seen an iPhone commercial. But if you were a customer at Betfair, there wasn't an app to make bets with your iPhone.

Until now. Betfair has introduced an application for the popular smartphone, becoming, it claims, the "first established betting company" to have an iPhone application.

    From Tech Watch:

“Betfair’s iPhone App takes advantage of the handsets’ multi-touch interface and high-resolution screen, offering our iPhone customers the same core exchange functionality as the main Betfair site,” said Charles Palmer, Head of Mobile at Betfair.

Apparently the Betfair app uses GPS to locate and verify a customer’s location before they are allowed to place a bet, to ensure they are in the UK.
Previously, Apple hasn’t allowed betting apps into the store, likely because of the US ban on online gambling.

I think it was always a matter of time before applications like this were produced for the iPhone.

I am really excited about this app because when I'm riding in the car on a long trip it is way easier to use by phone to play than my laptop. Is this only available for the iPhone?

With this, betting is now at your fingertips, literally. Betfair really knows how to make betting a little bit more portable for their customers.

Sounds like a good way to entice customers. There is an iPhone app for almost anything these days.

I have said this before, mobile marketing is blowing up quick. Next app will be for the blackberry. It just makes it so much more convenient for the user to bet anywhere they are.

The technology currently held by mobile devices is simply not there to support Online Betting. The processors are very slow and battery life very short IMO. Graphics are of very poor quality, overall were not there yet.

But defiantly it would appear we are heading in the direction of mobile wagering. Looking forward perhaps two years I can see affiliates developing and deploying there own apps. Who knows, the future looks bright.

That's a good point, I agree with you. I'm not that sure, but if the phone processors can handle online transactions without any problems, then it should be quite OK even though the resulting graphics are very minimal.
