California Indian tribes want online poker legislation

California is a state where there seems to be endless chatter about online poker legislation. Poker News published an article yesterday, via the Capitol Weekly, that said a group California-based Indian tribes and card rooms are lobbying to offer online poker for state residents.

As expected, there is plenty of resistance to this measure:

Several groups have come out against the possible legislation including the California Tribal Business Alliance (CTBA) who believe that the way the bill is written could jeopardize tribal gaming within the state. According to CTBA Executive Director Allison Harvey, the Morongo-supported bill would breach an exclusivity clause within gaming pacts that let the tribes be the only ones to offer gaming throughout the state.

This is still an unprecedented first, the Indian tribes have traditionally been against online gambling. Eventhough the popularity of online poker filled their created their poker rooms and filled them.

Good to see some change.

Couldn't agree more. And when everyone sees how much money they make, all the big land-based casino chains will try and get a piece of the action.
