Woman used company credit card to pay online bingo debt - I've never heard something like this

A Devon marketing executive used a company credit card to pay off spiralling debts to an online bingo site, a court was told.

Caroline Shopland-Saich, 40, used the card to pay off £22,620 debts with Foxy Bingo, Exeter Crown Court heard.


Shopland-Saich, of Ilfracombe, admitted fraud, was jailed for 12 months, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 200 hours' unpaid work.


The court heard that she had gone to police to confess.

Shopland-Saich was head of marketing at Barnstaple-based Applegate Media and was supposed to use the card to buy vouchers as rewards for successful sales reps.


The court heard that she used the card to pay off the debts she ran up with the site over a period of 21 months.

I can believe the story that the woman used her company credit card for online gambling as many people do this when they get in over their head, but the article implies that she was running on credit at the bingo lounges.
This I assume is untrue as I don't think any online gambling sites offer or are allowed to offer credit.
She must have been using the credit card on the sites for 21 months..

This is the first time ever that I have heard about such a thing. How can we be so irresponsible? The incident is outrageous to me because mixing personal and professional life is nothing but a blunder. I'm a Bingo buff, but I never use my company credit card.

If she got to the point to still money to pay for her gambling debts that means that this lady is sick. I feel sorry for her and her family. She will replace her emptiness with a different addiction if she doesn’t seek for help.
