Happy Independence Day to all Chileans

On the 18th of Sept 1810 the Chilean people declared their independence creating their first government.
We Chileans celebrate this day called “ El Dieciocho” in a big way with folk dances, singing, great food and lots of drinking. The most popular drink in this period is called “chicha” which is made from grapes.

Villarica, one of South America's most active volcanoes, erupted Tuesday around 3 a.m. local time in southern Chile near Pucon. The untamed giant is spewing heavy smoke into the air and treacherous lava surged down its slopes. Dutiful authorities evacuating thousands of people.

I hope nothing bad will happen to the people living in the area. Once again nature shows us who is chef and who is waiter.

In Chile we suffer greatly with natural disasters and in some cases even our neighbors from Argentina also suffers the consequences from the volcanic ash carried away by the win.
I look at that volcano eruption and I think how something so beautiful can be so deadly.

Back in Chile when I was young I used to go to the mountains with my family and many times I saw fossilized shellfish, massive snails and even foot prints of dinosaurs. It was so exciting to see all of that, I mean to find shellfish up high in the mountain was solid proof that all that was under water at some point in the past and you never know if that can go under water again.

Most children are dreaming about holding a real fossil in their hands. The majority is not lucky enough. So it is a rare experience.

Cerro Ballenas is really an exceptionally important location. It's the densest concentrations of fossil whales and other extinct marine mammals worldwide.

On Ebay you can find a lot of other exciting items e.g. shark tooth fossils from Chile for the price of 5 crates of beer or 5 hours in a bodybuilding studio.
