    Default Industry size

Hi, I know it's unquantifiable, and depends on a lot of things, location, laws and more, but I was recently wondering which part of the broader online gambling is the biggest looking globally, adding up everything, legal and offshore sites.

    Casinos? Sports? Poker? Bingo?

It seems to me that casinos and betting are the most popular. However, I cannot say which is more popular. What do you think? Bingo and Poker seem to me to be a little less popular than the above mentioned niches.
Looking at the popularity of partners on GPWA, casinos dominate.

    What is your subjective opinion?

You're still thinking about what to target, Danny

I'd suggest it's more about your own capabilities, knowledge, and interest. All three being important for different reasons.

    But some thoughts.....

Poker - Don't even bother, you will never be able to compete with the big sites that have been around for 15-20 years and still rule the roost. There is no sign of Google going outside of the top names...and no need for them to do so either. All poker queries are answered (well) by those sites.

Bingo - We saw a couple of recent posts...big market. But boring as hell! Could you really write the same stuff about 100 bingo rooms or the difference between 85 and 90 ball bingo!!?

Sports - Depends on how you intend to tackle it, and how you could do that in a way that sets you apart/adds value. Tips, no. Seems to have been proven many times that tips sites will struggle (although I'd wager there are some run by experienced members where that is not the case). There would be plenty you could do though to build a desirable sports betting info site.

Which leaves casino. And, for me, that would be your best target if you can build a site that can compete. There are many aspects you could focus on (begins with a B, for example), and new names do pop up in the SERPs still (which indicates G will give some leeway to newer sites). Also, some of the bigger historical top sites seem to have dropped away to an extent.

    ********************

For all of them, you are battling guys with deep pockets, guys with teams, guys that are able to work 16-18 hours a day solely on the site, etc

And you have to work out at the beginning - whatever target you choose - is there actually an exploitable market for what precisely I'm targeting.

So, don't underestimate the size of the task. But if you don't try, you definitely don't get, unless luck intervenes.

Hehe, no I already have a 100% goal which is sports betting, I have no idea about casinos so I don't even try and think about other things than sports.

And I started the thread out of curiosity, because reading various threads I didn't expect that casino is such a big industry in the world as betting. And from what I see maybe even bigger.

lottery has potential to be the largest but seems to be the slowest product to become standard online. lottery is obviously more connected with land based gaming corporations whether private or government owned.

I've recently started tips site and am still wondering if that traffic will bring me any FTD's. How come you know that betting tips sites don't make money. Do you have some experience?

There have been others with tips sites that have posted through this year saying they were struggling to get conversions. That doesn't necessarily mean you will, though. I'd suggest much depends on how the visitors are reaching the pages...and how well you can engineer the pages to encourage them to sign up for something.

Here's a thought process you could apply though (how accurate or valid it is, I don't know)....

If a punter is looking for tips, it infers they know how to bet. If they know how to bet, they know bookies. If they know bookies and want a tip because they want to place a bet, then they likely already have one or more accounts. So....likely if you attract visitors, you will need to be clever with how and what you show them in order to encourage them to sign up for something.
