    Default Closure of BetRegal UK

Just received this via email, another UK bookmaker closing. Wonder how many more with close this year.

    Hi there,

While BetRegal continues to grow globally, we've made the difficult decision to exit the UK market.

As of July 1st, BetRegal will no longer be accepting new customers and all existing BetRegal UK customers will lose access to our sports and casino products.

If you are an affiliate driving UK traffic to BetRegal, we ask that you please remove BetRegal from your UK traffic sources by June 26th.

BetRegal will continue to focus on expansion in our core markets, including Canada, Ireland and soon to launch BetRegal Mexico. Itís an exciting time of growth for the BetRegal brand.

Please reach out to affiliates@betregal.com if you have any questions about the closure of BetRegal in the UK, or about starting new partnerships in our other target GEOs.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,
    The BetRegal Team

This is the result of overzealous local authorities who have over-regulated the online gambling market. In other words, legitimate businesses are collapsing and shady businesses are proliferating. Only morons would not see this coming.

Completely agree, you can see plenty are switching to offshore sites with searches like "non gamestop casinos" exploding.

Totally agree. These regulations are only making offshore's stronger at the expense of legitimate sites. Governments really don't think things through.

People are going to gamble anyway, the choice is really if you want to do smart, light regulation to keep the gambling operations on shore, while raking in tax incomes OR discourage and regulate the gamblers away and lose the money.

Either way, gambling isn't going away.

Yeah lots of countries have tried over regulating and they are now spending a fortune battling offshore operators. You can't pretend we don't live in a global market and that the internet isn't everywhere. Either the industry will be smothered in the UK and black market gambling will explode or they will learn that overregulation is not a smart move and roll back some of this eventually. I suspect it will be the first option over the second though and I suspect there are going to be a load more brands exiting in the next year when new rules actually come in.

They open and close all the time. All such licenses cost money, and marketing is not free...
