Consultancy regarding possibly valuable domain name?

Hi All!

I find myself in a slightly weird situation and would appreciate feedback from those who are actively involved in the gambling industry, either on the affiliate side or otherwise.

As a small backstory: I used do little bit affiliate stuff some years back but got out of it because of personal reasons (and have no desire getting back into it).

So today I remembered that I might have one old gambling domain laying around from when I was doing the affiliate stuff, and it turns out I was right. The domain name is: PLAYRUMMY DOT COM

Now, I was doing bit of research in to the state of the game mentioned in the domain and it seems like it has become quite popular in India. There are multiple rather big Indian online sites where you can play it for real money and apparently also completely legally because of the skill factor, also the names of these sites appear to be in English and with .com domain. Because of the population and rapidly growing middle class India seems like a potentially very lucrative market for companies offering the game.

So couple questions come to mind:

1: What do you guys think about the domain’s value? Not looking for exact dollar figures, but more of an idea about how much time I should put into looking for a buyer.

2: What would be the best route for selling it when trying to maximize the price?

Because the domain was registered with “domains by proxy” and the email connected to the account is dead I have absolutely no idea if anyone has tried to send me an inquiry regarding the domain in the last ~3 years and thus I don’t have a good idea about the interest level regarding the domain.

You could try sedo or flippa but it might not fetch the big numbers you think it might.

Sedo also has a program where a broker can help with the sale, but obviously the commissions are higher.

The fact that you mentioned it here just might get you a few offers and allow you to let it go without having to deal with listing it anywhere else.

Regarding big numbers, before doing research into the niche I was thinking maybe trying to sell it for $500. I'm not sure if that counts as big or small numbers

$500 is a very reasonable price. Another thing that you might want do is to contact the major rummy sites, and let them know that the domain is for sale if they are interested.

You could pay for a sponsored listing on Sedo (I think used to be about €20) and see if there's any interest...or as mentioned approach their brokers (bigger fee of course)

A domain name's value is what an end user (ie someone who really wants it) is prepared to pay to get it. Difficult to put a price on this. Depends on whether the knowledge of its availability gets in front of the right people (that's where expert brokerage can pay off).

But you have a reasonably good exact match term. If you go for Sedo without their brokerage I'd go for maybe $2000 as a starter. Remember there's only one playrummydotcom in the world!

Sedo has an option where you can accept any offer but kick off a 7 day auction by doing so...if someone bids up then you hope it goes into a bidding war, if no one bids then you have to let it go at the original offer.

Alternatively have a look around other gambling or domain name forums and try listing. If you don't know any I can name a few.
