Is Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) more important than SEO?

SEO is a big industry on it's own however Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) is becoming an important part of online marketing.

What do you think about conversion optimization and is SEO more important than CRO?

They are both important. A website with very good SEO but no conversion doesn't make much money. A website that has a good conversion rate will need good SEO to get people on the website.

If you exclude every other form of traffic, SEO is the main focus because is the only way you can even talk about conversions. If you have 0 visitors, you will always register 0 commissions

BUT, no matter how many visitors you have, if your pages do not convert those visitors, commissions will also be zero.

An overall understanding of internet marketing is the most important thing. SEO and CRO inter-relate to each other anyway.

I guess they go hand by hand together with TARGETED traffic. One of those missing and I doubt you'd see any conversions, despite your excellent CRO or SEO. So in terms of CRO vs SEO, id say SEO has the potential to bring you more targeted traffic, given that you are focusing on the right keywords and get to rank well.

Once you have your seo in tact, i guess this would give a good size sample to improve your CRO. Can't really see how you are going to optimize your pages unless you see what 'targeted traffic' desires.

I think they are both important - first you have to attract visitors to your site and then try to achieve good conversion rate.

I would say both. IMO SEO traffic is the traffic with the most quality. I think the most of you will agree on this. The conversion rate influences your SEO because the search engines will rank you higher with a lower bounce rate and a conversion reduces the bounce rate. So I can not say that SEO or CRO is more important than the other.

Businesses do SEO for their site because they want people to come to their site in purpose. And this is most likely to complete a conversion goal. So I believe that both SEO and CRO are important in their own special ways.
