Question Is the coronavirus pandemic influencing how much time you spend working?

The coronavirus pandemic is having a huge impact on almost everyone's life today. The consequences are obviously most serious for those who have actually contracted COVID-19. But around the world there are huge disruptions around almost every aspect of the way people normally live and work.

As affiliates, most of us are lucky in the sense that it is generally easy for us to work from home. Most of us decide how much time we want to spend working, and can adjust that time to be more or less depending on what else is going on in our lives and how motivated we are to work in our affiliate business. So, with the turmoil in the world today, I'm sure many are just plugging on spending about the same amount of time working as as always. But for many, I expect the situation is resulting us working more or working less than before.

For this week's poll, I ask if you are working more or less now. But, the real objective behind the poll is to find out why your work hours have changed for better or for worse, or stayed the same. You might be working harder because you see new opportunities or because you are stuck at home without as many other competing choices. Or you might not be working as hard because you or those you care about are struggling with the consequences of the pandemic.

In my personal case, I think I am working a little harder than normal, although I have always spent enough of my time working that it is not that easy to work even more. I am concerned about what the future holds, and am doing my best to make sure I'm doing the right things so we whether the storm as well as possible. Major work activities have involved migrating the business from one where there were a significant number of folks working in an office to one where virtually everyone is working from their home, making sure near-term finances are as they should be in the context of changes taking place, and beginning the process of evaluating how the business needs to evolve given the new situation around the world. And on the personal side, there have been many new and different focuses as well. One simple example is spending more time on the phone with my mom who is isolated in a residence for the elderly that is under complete lock down, with even residents now isolated from one another (at first my mom had a couple friends eat dinner in her apartment unit each evening, but that is no longer allowed).

Simple answer here, I am working less. As we are on lockdown in the UK my wife and 5 month old son never leave the house anymore

Nothing has really changed for me. I'm still working almost the same amount of hours as usual. This coronavirus pandemic is still worrying me and draining my energy though and that is also affecting my work hours to an extent.

A little less time working these days - as there is less sport to cover.

Instead I'm diverting the time into site changes, tweaks and upgrades - but these are less time critical so I'm working less hours.

The same amount of work for me, but it will be more, I hope! Only thing that our child has an online schooling, and for the time being we have just one PC. As soon as I get another machine, I will be much more online and will do a greater amount of work.

I think initially that it had an adverse affect to me and I suspect many may have had similar experiences.

Prior to this, essential errands like going to the grocery store which might have taken 30 minutes or an hour, migrated to 2 hours or more in some cases due to long lines, more difficultly finding needed items, having to make multiple trips to different stores in attempts to get needed items etc. A few trips seemed to take the better part of the day.

I also shopped every single day for at least a week straight, since I suspected shopping would become more problematic as it did. (I had no wants of hoarding by any means, but knew if I did not stock up a small amount on at least canned goods etc and a storm formed in the islands food stocking would be out of the question)

There are a few items I wish I had gotten more of, such as cans of evaporated or condensed milk, and maybe a fresh bag of powered milk for cooking, but feel I can do without rather than deal with the grocery hassle for a bit now.

I do think that I can settle in to more time for work as each day passes now that trips to the store are not consuming the amount of time they seemed to last week.

On a personal note, as Michael mentioned, I also try to spend a bit more time on the phone with my mom, to help her alleviate the feeling of being alone so as it is not something she had become completely used to due to loss of other family members in the recent year or two. So now instead of a single call daily, I try to make a point to call a few times a day.

I also do my best, on a semi regular basis, to take extra time on at least one of my business related calls and steer the conversation to non business related stuff, at least a little bit when possible.

Not much has changed for me, still going to the office every day and working normal hours, which is a nice distraction from the Covid situation.

As a company, this is our busiest period in years, seems that our clients have more time on their hands to place orders.

Just grateful casino industry is not slowing down and our employees will not have to worry about getting paid at the end of the month.

Now is not an easy time, so you have to work harder and figure out how to make money online. As they say - you can’t easily take a fish out of a pond

Less time working, offset by more time playing poker so roughly the same amount of screen time.

99% of our business resources and profits, have been redirected, into helping our local community.
This includes organising the digital communications for several groups of local volunteers (over 700 recruited in our local town in the last week). Delivering food/medicine packages to local people who need it. Fund raising online for local groups helping the community. And supporting local businesses who support the community with free advice.
Thankfully we still have revenue share deals going back years, to support this temporary shift and loss in revenue.
We have been working with a local doctor and team of local professionals and have made a blueprint, of how to setup such groups of volunteers in any local area. If anyone wants a copy please DM me and I will send it over to you.

I'm working a bit more since I'm not going outside as much as I used to. Also, the drop in traffic and earnings has given me a greater motivation to work a little harder.

I've actually started working properly again after just over two years in semi retirement.

Am taking the time to relearn Wordpress and make sites myself instead of paying people to do it.

Not because I want to, but because the kids are at home annoying me, so down into the office I go for the whole day!

I am working more because of two reasons. 1. More work as usual 2. Anyway, I am not allowed to go out except for buying products in the supermarket.

While it's harder working from home with the kids & the home tasks which are "disturbing" I guess still I get to work more or less the same amount of time. However I do admit that I'm getting much more efficient which is great!

Definitely working more now. There are less distractions and with less to do great time to use the extra time on things that had been getting lower on the priority list.

All of my extra curricular activites have been cancelled. I come into the office and leave at some stupid hour. And the only reason I leave is because I'm hungry. I have no family or partner so being stuck at home more than is necessary right now will actually be hell.

The days go super fast but the weekends slow. I have been sleeping until 4pm then only really bother getting out of bed because I'm hungry.

Usually on a weekly basis I'm only ever home to shower and sleep as I'm so busy out doing activities. Sleeping more than 5 hours a night is actually making me more tired rather than the opposite. I don't know how people can sit around all the time.

The time I work is similar to before the lock down. I am more at home so I have more time, but my girlfriend is also home all the time so there is also more distraction.

Renee, I know exactly what you mean. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you and I have limited family with no partner and the government just expects us to stay home 24/7. It's very difficult to do this and it's so easy to get bored and lonely and you struggle to keep your sanity...
