Question Current state of iGaming SEO in Germany (2026)

    Hi everyone!

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the current SEO landscape in Germany for the iGaming niche. How difficult is it to rank for high-volume keywords like "Online Casino" or "Sportwetten" this year compared to last?

Also, which link-building strategies are currently showing the best results for the DACH region? Are you focusing more on local PBNs or high-authority outreach?

    Would appreciate any insights!

Hey Nick, it's still very difficult to rank, as it seems, you'll have to use drop domains, as classic SEO wont be effective in this one

Extremely difficult, almost impossible to rank with a new domain and poor backlink profile. You would require a domain with >50DR and >1k ref domains (good quality), a perfect on-site SEO setup (internal linking, etc.). Those keywords are gold treasures; anyone who ranks for them makes millions in a month or two.

Super agree, at the same time the route to that keywords in my opinion is starting with building a proper content cluster, before even trying it

Google is pretty strict about spam these days, so building your own PBNs is already quite risky. In my opinion, the best combination is a strong brand, quality content, and powerful links from relevant sites.

Germany is one of the hardest markets in iGaming right now, and the head terms you mentioned are a good example of why. They are dominated by long-established sites with strong brands and deep topical coverage, so a newer site usually cannot win them by publishing one strong page and waiting.

A more realistic route is to build around the head terms instead of straight at them. Cover the intent behind them in German, in detail: how licensing works, what players should check before signing up, how deposits, limits, and withdrawals actually work, and how specific games or betting markets differ. That kind of supporting content also gives you pages that can rank for longer, more specific queries while your main pages gain authority.

Do not treat DACH as one market. Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have different rules, payment habits, and search wording, even when the language overlaps. Content and internal linking should reflect those differences, or you risk ranking the wrong page for the wrong audience.

On links, relevance and editorial quality matter more in this market than raw volume. Mentions from German-language sites that genuinely cover sport, gaming, or finance tend to hold up better than shortcuts that Google can discount later. It is slower, but in a regulated market that slower route is also the one that protects the site you are building.
