I'm pretty sure the new legislation doesn't really change anything for affiliates.

Which new law ? There are two.
Firstly.
Starting on October 1, under the new Gambling Licensing and Advertising Act, overseas companies advertising remote gambling services to customers in the United Kingdom must hold a licence issued by the UK Gambling Commission. Companies can fill in applications for the licence starting in September.
Currently, those advertising remote gambling services to UK consumers can do so provided they hold a valid licence from within the EU or the White List Territory in which they are established.
Secondly.
At the same time, a new finance bill being introduced in December will see gambling operators taxed on a place of consumption basis. This means that they will have to pay tax at a proposed rate of 15% on gross gambling profits generated by customers in the UK, regardless of where they are based.
In summary :
The law is in and around non-UK gambling companies that have paying UK customers that bet on fixed odds or pool betting.
There are new licenses required to target UK players and advertise in the UK and separate "point-of-consumption" taxes and levies aimed at poker, casino, sports, and horse racing - that appear to be set at around 15% of gross profit ( turnover - payouts ) of any UK registered player.
None of this seems to to affect affiliates, newspapers, or tv channels that host advertising for the gambling companies - as they do not have customers that register and open betting accounts, make wagers - etc.

Just to clarify, do these laws apply to webmasters? With you mentioning about companies needing to apply for a license to advertise, do webmasters have to do the same? I'm pretty new to affiliate advertising with a 6 month old website. This may sound like a silly question, but I just want to make sure i'm doing everything legit![]()
I am fairly confident that the laws don't affect affiliates. It would however be important to make sure that the UK casino you are promoting carries the correct license.
