A Slate reporter couldn't find an e-mail client he liked, and his inbox was really depressing him. So he decided to build one himself, customized to his tastes. He writes about his experience here:

Well, I just quick scan it and delete the crap that doesn't interest me... That helps a lot. I don't need any application for that.
