Do you quit working early to do something else as often as you would like?

Today is Valentine's day. This year, for me, that means I'm leaving work early, going out to dinner with my wife, and then afterwards going to the movie theater to see a movie we decided we will enjoy watching together. So part of what is on my mind right now is that I need to leave work early because I certainly don't want to be late.

As affiliates working for ourselves, we probably all have too many things to do. That can mean late days, and putting other things aside. But we all need to put work aside sometimes as well in order to have a life worth living that we enjoy. So, for today's poll I thought I would ask whether you are happy with the balance you have in terms of working hard and putting work aside to enjoy life.

Besides voting in the poll, be sure to share your thoughts on this topic as well. Maybe share something you did where you made a deliberate decision that is what you wanted to be doing rather than working longer at the time.

Personally, I feel like I need to stop following routine all the time. I need to just let go and relax more, and do more of things I love and enjoy. I need to find a way to balance it all out. The trouble is, there never seems to be enough time to get everything that we all want to get done in our lives. I will set myself goals and aim to achieve them, and if I can't, I just try to at least get close to nearly achieving them. We're all only human and we try to do our best at things and live our lives to the fullest. This is what I believe in.

I don't really work when the kids are at home ( not at nursery etc )
However apart from that I pretty much work flat out

My lung collapsed 4 times a few years ago and health deteriorating quite rapidly ( am only 33 )
So I spend most of my available time working so that when the worst happens my partner and kids don't need to worry

I do take days off though take my eldest son out on his quad bike and my pit bike, spend time with the other half etc but pretty much I work a LOT

Kids are on half term this week so took them out for an hour or so to get some fresh air and a milkshake, now back at my desk so not exactly quit early - just took a little time out. Couldn't get that kind of flexibility in the world of corporate slavery!

There are a couple of days a week that I leave only slightly later than I'm supposed to, but the days when I don't have anything on I'm usually in the office hours after everyone has left. I really only leave the office at 5.30 if I have something I need to get to early.

I did tell myself this year I wouldn't work back after hours so much but so far that hasn't really happened. Whoops!
In saying that though, I tend to only check emails and skype a couple of times on the weekend. So I'm getting better.

Didn't answer the poll because I felt the available answers weren't fitting to me.

Fact is though, I worked like a madman for literally years on end. As a consequence of that, my entire life was almost always on max stress levels. Lack of sleep, ended up being the catalyst of insomnia, which, still plagues me today.

Commenced being an affiliate back in 2000 at 39 years old. I'm 57 now. Aside from not having that hungry-tiger-drive anymore, I've come to realise, there's more to life than work. Granted, having the cash reserves to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle is great. But... practically killing yourself to achieve that goal, isn't.

So since 2014, I've slowed things up, a lot. These days if I want to do something (other than work), I simple do it without any guilt.

Once I was invited to the interview to company driven by so-called hard-working people. In the end of our convo I asked, if there were some surprises they didn't share yet, the answer was "Hmm...ah.. yes, we work 6 days a week". I tend to research the extremums, when it comes to numbers, so I asked "Ok, could you tell how did you decide on 6? Why not 4 or 7?". Of course, there has been no response, and the dialog didn't even reach classically closing Salary chapter.

Usually I come home 30 mins before my 1 yo kid goes to sleep. One day I came home and found him meeting me with applause for this occasion. In two days he quit doing this, if I'd got home later, I'd never see it. Even though there's still a lot of goals to meet for me, I ask myself what would I miss utilizing more time into work. It helps to select right priorities.

What kind of company makes their employees work 6 days a week?!
I bet the salary didn't match that either.

My situation is kind a different for me now:

I have a regular day job in a company, and I work online with my phone and when I get home. I had no problem working up to 1am every day and starting 5am next day. Basically day job 8 hours(8am-5pm) and after that, affiliate and content job, pretty cool hehe.

One month ago I get married and now I live with my wife; I used to live alone, but now, with my wife, I cannot work as much cause, we are sharing pretty good momenta now, a new home creation. Times need to be adjusted right now.

So, two months ago, my vote was something like “I never quit job

” and now is like “I quit job too much”

I find it hard to find the balance between work and free time. I feel I usually work more than I should - that's the negative side that I don't work day by day with strict office rules.
