Google Search Console Mobile Usability Errors With Google Fonts

On a new site we're noticing mobile usability errors in GWT that don't actually exist, mainly due to some resources not being loaded... but here's the kicker, the resource not being loaded is the api for google fonts. So they're saying the page isn't mobile friendly because they're not loading their own fonts api.

We have other sites that use google fonts that don't have this issue so not really sure what's going on. It's also not on all pages, so googlebot is correctly loading the api for the majority of the site (the page with the error changes as well).

The other weird thing is that the error shows up in the search console but if you go to the mobile friendly test (https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly) it passes 100%, which again implies it's just a reporting bug.

Anyone come across this or have any ideas? Or is it just a 'wait until google sorts out its own nonsense' scenario.

I've seen this with my own non-gambling related sites before going back at least a year, and it's apparently not uncommon as I understand it.

I mean I agree. I figure they have [what they believe is] a good reason to let it keep doing that since the alternative is that they're just ignoring the complaints that I'm sure they've received. While the latter isn't impossible, it just seems less likely considering how long I've seen it happen.
