Doing keyword research - would like some tips specific to my niche

Hey guys

I have completed the construction of my site, registered domain, got all the social media accounts going, got some staff together..

But one thing i should have done earlier is keyword research.

I am using semrush/longtailpro/kwfinder to analyze my competitors and come up with a list of keywords to target

Only thing is, in my niche, there is no mobile sites, only PC gambling review.

So im guessing the best idea is to target the keywords that the current leaders are using, and then just let the fact that my site is targetted towards mobile and let all those keywords take over?

I'm happy to pay someone for some one-on-one skype type discussing this as its very important stage for me.

Any free help would be greatly appreciated also, of course

As your site is new, you are best off targeting long-tail keywords; mobile bitcoin casinos, that sort of thing. Once your domain has built up some authority, go for the more lucrative short-tail keywords; bitcoin casinos, bitcoin gambling that sort of thing.

Target content over kywords.. you might not get that one gret keyword you want but may get 1000 other highly lucrative keywords which ultimately bring in the same result, they key is to target words which do not exist yet, you create them...

I agree with both wonder punter and scampi....

Focus more on content and worry less about the keywords, with maybe a little subtle focus on long tail keywords over time...

What I mean is write in such a way as to not think too much about targeted keywords, and then later decide on optimizing the page a little bit to target the long tails....proving the keywords match what was written.

Google has shifted from specific keywords more towards the user's INTENT. Of course exact match keywords are relevant, but now more than ever its important to group keywords based on the intent of the visitor.

Couple of tips: Use your keyword phrase as file name for that specific webpage.
1) work your keyword phrase into the content - within titles for example.
2) use kw phrase in title, meta descriptions.
3) use kw phrase as hashtag for Twitter/FB posts

As far as I now Google is not taking anymore care of them because the spammers tried to get benefits from the keywords that had no connection with their site's content.
Forgot about keywords, I can show you big sites without keywords

Content is king. The way users are changing their searches nowadays means that longtail is favourable.

Plus, short keyword searches are way too competitive. You'd have to have an insane budget to get on the top pages

THe guys above make great points, but I`d think twice about the 'content is king idea'. Don`t sleep on it, you need optimization and management as well.

Keyword research is a very important thing to do in Seo. Because, if keyword will be unique and most re searchable in search engine. Then we can use to a better use of a Seo in internet world. So, it is very important part. Thanks for sharing.

Don't agree that 'content is king', but it is important. Just remember to look at what the best top ranking sites are doing. Break down how they got there. It's not THAT hard once you know all the tools to use.

Yes "Content is king" I totally agree with that but, It should be well optimized & well managed. Management & optimization is also very important part.

Do a complete research to see what makes sense. Writing general content is no good idea. Write the content which is long term and has timeless value.

I agree. Google moved from keyword focussed to semantic and is trying to guess the intention behind searches. Nonetheless the keyword research is the first step for a seo project. Google has to understand what the site is about…
