There's an article in the June 2009 issue of Playboy that reads:

Counting cards in a casino isn't illegal. Using any kind of device to count cards in a casino is illegal. So you definitely don't want to mess with the iPhone app Blackjack Card Counter. You can set it to run on stealth mode, which allows you to operate the card counter with your hand while keeping the iPhone tucked in your pocket. Yes, it's cheating in a place where you don't want to be caught cheating. It's unwise. It's illegal. It's a felony. Available at the iTunes store.

LMAO ! Thats funny ! ts like weed. Its illegal to smoke but you can buy everything under the sun to make your smoking experience an enjoyable one.

I saw this awhile back. Casinos are on to this and banned iphones completely. Do they still sever pinkies?

The iPhone card counting application has caused quite a stir in the casino world. Since detecting the application is merely impossible, iPhones are banned as a whole in most land based casinos. Anyone caught using this program while playing could be facing charges. To safeguard matters, casinos have decided that gamblers who own an iPhone, whether using it or not, cannot enter casino premises on account of the counting application having an invisible mode which is hard to detect. Use of an iPhone is now considered a grad A felony in all states, as is the use of any other card counting devices.
One place it isn’t illegal to use the iPhone counting device is online. More accurately, the simple fact is that online casinos are not able to detect the use of counting devices and are therefore helpless in the face of banning them. That being the case, more and more experienced gamblers are seeking the essence of a casino online. Online casinos have been able to capture the pizzazz land based casinos are losing due to so many rules, banns and cheap attractions.
If the ban on smoking inside land based casinos was not enough of a blow, online casinos are reporting a further rise in player deposits since the iPhone counting application release and then ban.
George Grisham, a veteran gambler, said “going to a casino used to be a glitzy thing to do. A way to let lose in style , we used to dress up have dinner and some drinks, these days any ‘shlump’ off the street can enter have a meal for $9.99 and a few goes at the tables. I don’t bother anymore, especially since the new smoking regulations.”

Wow.. I had no idea that any land based casinos had bans on iPhones. That's pretty inconvenient if you're an iPhone user and NOT using the card counting application, or doing anything else wrong. So if you want your phone on so your kids can call if there's an emergency, or any other important calls you need to be available for, you better have a 2nd phone that's not an iPHone? Sheesh!

Well, for those in costa rica, you ARE allowed touse the iphone still, or any phone,and even talk, while you play...cool !

Is it illegal to use devices to count cards in land based casinos there?

Excuse me, but what a load of horse manure! How many online casinos do you know that:

1. Use a single deck, or
2. Deal a shoe of cards down 60-70%?

Online casinos deal from however many decks they want and they can and do reshuffle EVERY HAND.

What use is a counting device online? FFS...

No such ban on phones over here in uk

jeeeeeezus they sit at table playing poker chatting about the weather here

ignorant blighters.

OFC card counting is illegal here though too!

Whats this iphone thing, how does it work, i can barely feel the phone in my pocket let alone be able to input cards into it!

Luckily i can still feel other things in my pocket
