    Default Email Marketing

    Hello,

Back in the old days, a lot of affiliates used to promote an online casino primarily via emails.
Affiliates were able to build up a proper email list and some other times renting or buying the list from other sources.

I have been contacted a few times from people who want to sell or rent their gambling list. Personally, I am scared even to talk about that on how they got the list and how do they know that are from gambling costumers.

I've also talked to some other affiliates who have rented a gambling list and didnt get anything on return.

Is this channel still popular for you?

    Cheers,

Well if the people contacting you to rent their list to you are affiliates, then they are lists of people they have signed up at their portals (and they would be stupid to rent them) and they are also likely their business associates....US!

And, if their privacy policy at their sites state they will never sell that information when they sign up, then they are helping to purpotrate spam as well.

And if they sell a list with our names on them, well that is a breach of our trust.

A lot of people are also compiling lists in any way they can, whois information and also by the use of email scrappers....a program that scours the net grabbing any email addy they can find on millions of websites...usually not a very clean list by any standards.

And this is just a small portion of the way some list sellers collect emails....

    hi Connie,
I believe your question was more about whether people have had any recent success with lists they've built. I have the same question.

I know friends who used to get a lot of action from their site's newsletter, but that was all before sept 2006.

Years ago i ran a list of 10,000 free subscribers to a daily lottery results email. i had a number of people threaten to have me arrested for spamming them, then write back a few days later complaining they weren't getting getting our emails. I explained he had accused us of spamming, and i reinstated his account. a week later he's threatening me for spamming, the writes a few days later saying he's not getting our email.... and so on.

i concluded it wasn't worth it (i wasn't converting lottery players to casinos back then) and decided to charge $10 a year for the service to avoid the spamming accusations. Well i got a call from a man who's subscription was paid via paypal, from the same email we were sending the email to... "I would never subscribe to a lottery email, i'm a minister and don't believe gambling is morally right"..... and he'd renewed a couple of times before.... LOL

so, i'm intrigued by the idea of building up lists with my traffic, but i'm wondering if anyone else is really finding the "newsletter" a valuable channel?

    Hi,

Yes. My question was more towards finding out if people are still using email marketing to promote a gambling operator.

Back in the old days, the conversion rate for email marketing for gambling was very high and some operators will jump if an affiliate will promote them with an email list.

The people who contacted me in the past to rent/sell their mailing lists were not affiliates. It seems that they were just brokers with a gambling list.

Anyone else find this channel worth the time and effort?

    Cheers,

regardless of how this thread goes you should never rent or buy mailing lists. Im sure the people who are on that did not wish to have their info sold to the highest bidder. Its dishonest and if you make money off false email listings without earning that list you suck 100%

Agree fully, email marketing in this bizz had its' day. I certainly would not even contemplate ever using the technique. In the end it pisses people off, especially if the email is unsolicited.

I definitely wouldn't use any addresses i don't have double opt-ins, with times, ips and browser type recorded for each sub.

there really isn't a good reason to buy a list unless you know/trust the source 100%. If i want to reach Pro Football fans, there are enough sites that offer advertising within their existing newsletters. you can sign up and check for yourself if they respect unsubscribes or worse are selling your address.

having gone thru all the caveats. i still hope to hear:

has anyone built a list, worked it and succeed in monetizing it? if so, is it still working?

I started building an email list a couple of months ago, it's still small but constantly growing. The few mailers I've sent out have a an ok response, something I will continue working on. Making emails to send out is quite time consuming though, and it takes a while to learn all the tricks to get round the spam filter - DON'T use mailers provided by casinos, more often than not the way they are built means they end up straight in recipients junk box.

I wouldn't ever consider using a bought/rented list, apart from the obvious moral reasons I would assume that they would be next to useless - the person before you has probably sent each recipient a million mails and forced that person to use a new email address (bit extreme, but you get the point).

I have been collecting emails for a newsletter on crazymoneycasino site for some time now. I have about 200 so far, and it's hard to tell if they are converting well or not. I do feel that it's probably not worth my time now compared to ther thing I could be doing with my time (ie content generation etc.).

    Hi universal4,

I've also ask the same question to those "brokers" and then letting them know that I am not interested. I am probably not the only person who have been contacted by "brokers" who are selling gambling mailing lists.

Anyone else would like to share their experience with Email Marketing?
Is it worth to do it?

Non-gambling affiliate programs encourage their affiliates to build up their own mailing lists
and provide them with special coupons/offers for email marketing.

I personally think that the only way a newsletter will work is to make it either important content or a very "friendly"/personality that people look forward to hearing from. I haven't managed to do that yet

Does anyone have an email service that either doesn't restrict gambling content (constant contact) or make you agree to some huge potential fines (MobileStorm).

what do the folks at GPWA/Casino City do for mailing list management/delivery?

If anyone has any non-gambling programs that you've had success with some sort of email offer (in the US), please let me know. I have a list of about 12,000 US resident people, so i'd love to find a non gaming promo that would work.

    AmCan, try:
    mailermailer . com
    or
    yourmailinglistprovider . com

Both have free versions you can play around with, but your emails will contain their ads and you won't have full functionality.

I use Aweber. The only problem I had with Aweber is that they require a mailing address to be included in each message you send. If you don't include an address yourself, they will automatically attach the billing address you used to set up the account. Every single message that goes out must have a contact address. If you don't want your true location revealed to your subscribers, I suggest looking into using a virtual mailbox address (perhaps in the UK or somewhere else).

Non-gambling ideas: One of the things on my "to do" list is to check out Clickbank and see if there are any products there I could build a site around and promote. Maybe look at that; maybe you'll find something there that might work for you.

Regarding email marketing -- I'm not sure if this approach is working that well for me. I've been collecting names and email addresses (double opt in) for over a year, and while the "open rate" of the emails has been decent, very few people click any of the links within the message. I'm starting to think, "why even bother."

affiliates to build up their own mailing lists
Renee, that is the KEY point.

The CANSPAM act actually requires the physical address.

    Hey Connie,
Been a long time since we have seen each other. It's great to see you here.

Before I sold out my CFC and old affiliate accounts back in November 2006 I had aprox 5,300 or so email subscribers. I did do great back in the day with my opt-in mailing list. Today I only have around 212 subscribers and so it is hard to tell if my monthly newsletter does any good.

    Hi AmCan,

I've used Vertical Response and am very pleased with it. It's very much like Constant Contact, but allows gambling content.

They offer a free trial. After that you can pay monthly or pay as you go. I only use the pay as you go option. I'm able to manage my double-opt in mailing list for free, and pay per email sent.

    Hi Captain,

I havent been able to attend affiliate shows because of my son and the agency.
Hopefully, we will see each other again very soon. Great to see you here as well!

The conversion rate for Email marketing was very high during those years and was wondering if people are still using this channel and how succesful it is.

    Cheers,

    Connie Burstin

    Thanks for all the suggestions/ideas.

I thought i'd start reporting back.

I registered with aweber.com at about 3:30pm yesterday,

put the form on my site at about 4:30pm.

It's 9 am, 1.8% of the people seeing the form (it's quick basic text) are registering,

so far about 18% of them have verified.

my confirmed sub. list is growing at a rate of about 1.2 people an hour
