Errors on Google webmaster tools

Hi,


I've been working on my site for several weeks and I recently visited google webmaster tools to find out a lot of errors are reported on the crawler tool, but they are related to not related content, not published on my site.

Some of the errors come from: www.xxxxx.com/search/master-cleaning.... I have nothing like that on my site! Not sure if people accesses my site and looks for that type of things or what's going on.

The thing is, every failed search shows on the crawler tools and I'm afraid it will be a problem in the future. Not sure how to fix that either.

I have often found that many times when you have links pointing at you from unrelated sites and pages it usually comes from garbage sites that are scraping your content, or seowannbe sites that are scraping your content and republishing it without permission and certainly NOT sending you traffic.

If they show as errors they are likely using poor code that will link to you and then start a new sentence immediately at the end of your link, thus making it a bad url since there is no "t" after html (linkdomian_com/page1.htmlThe best place to buy)

Any time I see this garbage type of 404 pointing at me I redirect the url in htaccess and move on.

Lol at this post building strategy. Anyways what baffles me is that WMT finds 404 pages, that I may have had 5 years ago, and are linked from other 404 pages. How do I fix a link that doesn't exist anymore, from a page that also doesn't exist anymore.....

Like literally when I click on "Linked from" that source page isnt there either. Rick do you just 302 them to the main page or what?

Uhm... On a SEO perspective i would "410" ('forever gone, forget it') those pages expecially if some of them are hosted on malicious/crappy/scraper sites. I'm doing it. A 301 pass a lot of things on the new page, both good or bad. Since good 'juice' is very rare nowadays, I prefer to block all.

Yep, annoying. But the only way to fix this "goofy" behavior from Google is to 410 those pages

Wow thanks. I wasn't aware of error code 410. So simply i 410 every single goofy URL and the crawler should drop those 404s?

It's working for me.
In two months, no one of previous weird urls are returning in GWT dashboard.

X, I usually do a permanent to either the home page or to a page that more closely matches what was originally linked (or should have been had they not been total idiots with their coding)

I will look into what dfiocch has suggested though, that might be a way to handle some of them..
