Facebook facing lawsuit over social casino apps

Facebook is going up against 12 plaintiffs who have filed against the social giant for the possible participation in an illegal gambling conspiracy.

Law Street Media reported stated the following in its report:

This week’s complaint claims that social casinos are highly addictive, manipulative games that can wreak financial havoc on players. The lawsuit also claims that social casinos are illegal under some states’ gambling laws. In support of this proposition, the complaint points to a Ninth Circuit case finding that virtual gambling chips are a “thing of value,” noting that they earned the game’s creator millions, and thus concluding that the online game constituted illegal gambling under Washington law.

The complaint links Facebook to the alleged conspiracy by claiming that it "holds a major (30%) financial interest by hosting the game, driving customers to it, and acting as the bank."

I read this news some time ago, and did not think, that it would go this far. One of my friends from school, who is in legal now says that this is just to blame the fault on someone else. It was sait that the social media behemoth receives a 30% revenue cut for hosting the game, making it complicit. In other words, Facebook promotes gambling. The complaint further implies that the social media firm and the developers are working together. This is called marketing...
