    Default Fed up with invitations

I am starting to get a bit fed up getting invitations to places like Netlog, Linked-In and others.

These invitations are NOT coming from individuals but from the groups directly.

And to make matters worse, are the ways in which the groups are getting our email addresses......

There is at least one affiliate manager out there that is supplying these places with our email addresses so that we can be invited to join the programs....

Screw that, I didn't give these individuals permission to give my email address to a third party......

Think about that, in order for Netlog to send me an email, telling me that "Mr. Affiliate Manager" has invited me to join Netlog to get updates about this person, they had to provide Netlog (a third party) my email details and this is all done WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!!!!!

This is NOT a person going through a list of members and finding out I am already a member and requesting the "connection" this is a program I have no interest in joining, but now that third party has my email address, because this manager supplied them with it.....

Appologizing about doing this kind of crap is not really enough....because nothing anyone does at this point can take back the fact that the third party has the email....how many times will they sell it?

I don't care if they terms listed on some obscure page that claims they won't sell it, will protect it, all that bla bla bla....

I was NOT given the opportunity to read their terms and make my own decision as to whether or not join the place....my details were provided to them by someone else.....(an affiliate manager)

You're popular.. no one ever wants to connect with me and be my friend - but by the sounds of the amount of social media spam going around, maybe thats a great thing!

I agree with your post Rick, and I haven't participated in any of the practices you have stated.

But I do also slightly sympathise with the affiliate manager who did this, who could have been simply trying to create another method for you guys to connect or to introduce you to a new tool he found.

By no means am I saying this right, he should have contacted you directly, just saying it was probably an ignorant mistake with good intentions, rather than just an ignorant mistake .

Sorry Dave, but it's my damn email account and you have NO RIGHT whatsoever to give it to a third party....

Like you said, he should have contacted ME but he didn't and now I get re-invited almost every day....and I never had the opportunity to accept or reject the privacy policy.

Universal, The best option is to actually join-up to these places and register an email that you never clear.

Not only do you not get bothered by the main site often, but if you do get a rogue spammy invite then you can simply login and mark it as SPAM - and it counts against the individual who sent it ... a precursor to them getting kicked off the site ...

AM's and spammers be warned ...
