Feedback request: MTTDB.com - Poker Tournament Planning App & Database

Hi GPWA,

I’m now four months into a new project, MTTDB.com - an online and live poker database and planner.

It’s something i’ve wanted to do for a long time, As someone who has both consumed and produced live poker schedules, it’s always been a bit of a treasure hunt to find schedules and all the info you need as a poker player. Having structured info all in one place and making that info useful and fully filterable is the MTTDB concept in a nutshell.

Not just for live poker, for online poker too. Very few people are going to fire up every site to find out what is on to play. But if you can search for it all in one place, without opening any clients up, it’s a time saver. I’m also more likely to open a site up if i know what’s on, rather than ignoring it completely.

It’s not a results database, for that there’s the Hendon Mob. It’s more planning focused with clear, presentable, structured data. It’s not complete by any means, filling the database is a long slow task, but we are getting there. Blinds structures aren’t included either (yet) but it’s a work in progress and is being constantly upgraded and improved.

I'm hoping to tap into your expertise and hopefully get some good suggestions and feedback. Keen to hear what you think of the site, what could be better, what works, what doesn't.

My background:

I was first involved with gaming affiliation in the very early days of the online gaming industry.

In 1998, as one of the original employees of the first online betting site in the UK, I was handling the customer service, online marketing and pioneering the emerging special betting category (before it became the staple that it now is in many online sportsbooks).

I also launched the site’s affiliate program, in 1999, the first of its kind for a UK based sportsbook. Payments were made to affiliates based on a crude metric of accounts opened and a % of turnover. It was a model that several other online bookies using the same software (Openbet) directly copied and it lasted for a few years before the sector became more sophisticated.

I moved on to focus on poker in 2003 and have stuck largely with that for most of the next two decades, first setting up Blue Square’s online poker room, then looking for ways to make the online and live sides of the business tick together better.

Along with other senior Grosvenor/Blue Square staff, I conceived, helped set up and then ran the GUKPT from 2007-2010. Then i moved to PokerStars where I managed a team who ran tours like the Eureka Poker Tour, Estrellas Poker Tour, UKIPT, France Poker Series and various others.

Since 2018 I have worked as a business development consultant, poker site editor, freelance writer (live poker reporting, poker/gaming industry b2b and b2c news, gaming SEO & investigative journalism) and database manager.

It's taking far too long to load, tried it on two different browsers. And then when it's loaded, takes just about as long to navigate to different pages.

Long enough that I'd say it's unusable, and you'll lose anyone that lands.

You should fix that as a matter of urgency. If you can do that, it'll then allow someone to look around and see what else might be needed.

Note I didn't try it on a mobile, just a laptop.
