Lightbulb A few questions about starting

    Good morning all,

I have been lurking around this site for quite some time and decided to register. I just registered a few domain names and I am looking at stepping into the affiliate program, but mainly offering a few different things.

I come from an entrepreneurship and software engineering background. I have mainly run my own businesses either doing engineering development for other companies, or creating open source software products for others to use in the community. Products I've developed range from large data systems to pinball machines (which I loved working there).

With that said, I am looking at opening a community/portal itself to offer value to the player and to serve as a "field test" for the different products I intend to develop. I've played mostly slot games online for the last couple of years, and I have loved every minute of it. I also try to get out to the casinos a few times a year to play in person. The experience is often one of the biggest highlights of my year.

Question 1: As a casino affiliate marketer, what technology/software might you find useful?
Question 2: As a casual player, what might you find beneficial in a player community site/portal? Lord knows we've got a BUNCH of "guide" sites, so perhaps a spin on that content presented in a different format? Not sure. Obviously content would be original.
Question 3: As an affiliate marketer, what tools do you find useful in your job?

One idea is possibly a platform that utilizes machine intelligence to do lead scoring on prospective players that visit your portal, telling you which ones are likely to "convert" by clicking on your links, and you could set automated marketing engagements for players that fall below a certain score.

Any other ideas that people may have, please feel free to throw them out, and I'm happy to also lend a hand with any technical issues you may be facing in the web arena.

Again, everyone here has been so helpful with each other, I'm glad to be here!

    Thanks,
    Compy

Objective, fair information. I do not like propaganda sites that are just telling you that every online casino is fantastic, every slot is great, etc. A good website also tells you sometimes an online casino is dodgy and a slot sucks.

    Hi

You come from the software engineering background and now you want to earn big cash with casino affiliate ? You can try but this is a wrong start...

What you know about Seo ? Whitehat ? Blackhat? Email marketing ? Html/Php ? Linkbuilding ? analytics ? gambling market ? Social Media ? Media buying ?

If you know nothing..you are false here. Better build a blog and earn small cash with amazon affiliate...and later after 2-3 Years you can try to dominate the Gambling market.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply and the insight! Never apologize for your english. It reads very well. I never said I was here to earn big cash, actually. If I wanted that, I'd probably have a better shot at investing more money into my software development business. The reason I am thinking about venturing this way is for a few reasons. Mainly, it sounds like a fun challenge. I love the gaming scene. I could use the marketing practice, and there's no better way to learn than in the cutthroat business of casino affiliate marketing. If I find some moderate success, then yeah, the money would be a motivating factor.

    The reality check is appreciated

PS: Your website is really neat. Nicely done.

Best advice is the old advice, build something you really like, and in most cases others will as well. If you are truly interested in the gambling aspect and this is something you will do mainly as a hobby not a business I am sure you will do well eventually.

Most failures come from hearing you can make a good living with gambling, and throwing up a wordpress site with some reviews and 500 banners.
Have Gaming Email Lists? Ask me how to convert them into multiple casino depositors! Allfreechips online casino guide offers online casino reviews from our members. True. Somebody that is f.e. "5", could convince people that are 1, 2, 3 or 4 to click and play. Somebody that is 1 cannot convince that much people. With some interest, motivation and affection with gambling, you easily can start as a 2, 3 or 4 for example. Without that, people start as a 1 and indeed, they end up with a website with a shitload of banners and crappy reviews.

I used to check websites mentioned in old topics where people that started around that time asked for a review. Quite a lot do not have updates anymore, etc. They start enthousiastic with some programs and a lot of banners, but after a pair of months without making a penny, they give up.

I think it's also good to have also people from other business coming into this business. They sometimes are having some fresh ideas or insights.

Do what you love, and never work a day in your life

As others have stated, SEO is KING in this industry, backend technologies less so. Get a domain that google will "like", and build up a lot of content, while also making it responsive so that the site(s) work well on Desktop, Mobile, and Tablet.

    Hi Compy,
Actually I come from a very strong tech background as a dev as well and I have a few insights that you might find interesting:

    1. Having a strong tech orientation is a significant edge, as most of the guys in the industry are really not techy'.
You could use this skill to build much more advanced features to your site and automate ton's of tasks that people unfortunately still do manually out there.

    2. For on-page SEO, your tech background get's you covered...
you would understand the main concepts quickly and you could easily implement them.
For off-page SEO, that's actually an exciting journey into marketing, content, link-building, etc' - which is hard and challenging for itself.
But again, as a techy guy, that isn't something you can't deal with... you'l even have an edge upon others in my opinion.

    3. I think the tools you use depends on the product you want to build.
In my opinion, as a dev you could utilise CMS's like Wordpress & Drupal and extend them to your needs much better than non-tech affiliates.
If you don't want to use a CMS that's fine too, try to find the pro's and con's of the technology stack you want to use in terms of how much it fits the product/site you want to build.

    4. regarding what you said with complex algorithms of machine-learning to optimize lead-conversion...
thats a great idea and there always cool things that can be done to improve the conversion funnel.
However, you'l be disappointed to discover that most of the industry is really behind in terms of technology.
You will work with primitive admin-dashboards which most of them even don't provide any API to work with, so that is kind of limiting.

Hope this shed's some light !
Feel free to ask more questions if you have any !

    Cheers

I wouldn't recommend this to a newbie. Progger he is not yet able to tell what is a good link portfolio or not. Nothing's worse, then when you buy a domain with a ****** link portfolio or Google penalty, nothing will work and he won't know why. Too risky - IMO.

I can only second your original advice. I wouldn't start with the gambling niche. Start with something small first, some popular niche e.g.: health with juicing and/or weight loss affiliate programs, much easier, much less potential income.
