Amidst all the disappointing news surrounding the ewallet policy changes, I was happy to come across some good news. The U.S. anti-spamming law, 2003 CAN-SPAM Act, just saw its first successful conviction.![]()
On Jan. 12th Jeffrey Goodin was found guilty of criminal spamming, along with 10 other guilty counts related to the charge. He'd been charged with a phising scam where he posed as the America Online billing department to get people to give him the credit card info and then used the cards. So, this wasn't gambling-related spam.
Even though it's not gambling spam I think it is great news for the industry because it lays down some precedent and really brings the CAN-SPAM Act a bit more into realization. First conviction under the act - woot, woot!
