Flash changes in Chrome also affects Java and Silverlight

So far I have only found work arounds on the user/browser side.

So far almost all recommendations I have read are simply saying "Stop Using Chrome".

This affects Flash, Java and Silverlight. Here is a statement Java.com has puyt up so far.

Will there be a backlash to this? Has this move messed up Forex sites, the airlines and other travel related sites that had a heavy use of java for searching?

Have most sites written and being served by Cold Fusion suddenly lost a browser that was likely gaining marketshare?

Java and silverlight too? so only adsense will run ion chrome browsers soon? btw most people have a seperate java plugin anyhow,, but here is the problem... many online banks still use this tech also

Yea it seems so.

You make a good point about the banks too, since some of them base some of their applications on java.

Depending on what kind of java applications you are running there are workarounds that sometimes have to be followed, that at times have to be done in most browsers. Some times it might be as simple as going into the java control panel and putting the web address in the trusted section in there (as well as the browser). I recently had to do this on a server in order to load the management for one of my switches as the gui to manage the ports would not load until the ip address was allowed in the java control panel. (even after saying yes to run the app)

It does seem as though from a user standpoint, people will be able to enable some functions in their browser, and of course Google will use this excuse and pass this off as they weren't trying to dictate what technologies can and can not be used in web pages, but we all know that even if developers are only losing a portion of visitors to their apps if they were based on these technologies, it will be up to the developers to make changes in their apps and on their sites, or it will be up to the website owners and developers to educate people to stop using browsers that do not support the kind of applications and technologies that have become quite prevalent.

Forgive me for not mentioning this before when I started this thread. I started this thread based upon a discussion that Sherlock started in the Bet365 Forum as he was the first one to bring this to the GPWA and it made perfect sense to start a discussion down there since it has a major effect on operators that use a lot of flash, and as he pointed out they use flash in a lot of their odds creatives and so forth.

I started reading various posts and messages about this around the web, and the changes Chrome has recently made certainly do appear to have some pretty far reaching implications.

By the way, I would also expect these same changes to show up in Opera in short order.

I haven't confirmed this, but just read that Netflix uses Silverlight and if this screws them the loss in marketshare could be drastic if a high percentage of their customers use chrome.

Also read that Silverlight is big with broadcasters.

It seems workarounds in Chrome will only work up until version #42 but certainly NOT in Version #45.

Netflix do have a Windows app, But I have found since last week a lot of large news sites unusable..lack of support is causing the site to hang we are talking about sub 100 ranking sites which depend on flash as their revenue generator, I'm sure they will make a fix, though there are plenty of sites "Complex sites" that do not have the funds or the time to pull off a complete change.. The biggest users of chrome right now have got to be android right?

And even though we can find a work around the average web user will not.. they will just go try another browser.. like Edge or similar
