Default Flash player introduction on homepage

I came across a website for a land based casino that has a woman appear on the homepage (flash player) and give a verbal introduction to the casino.

I like this and am starting to think it may be something to add to my website. I am not very technically gifted and am not sure about the logistics of implementing this on my website.

Have a look and if you can give me any pros or cons to having something similar on my website I would appreciate it.

This isn't very difficult to do yourself, you'll just need to record yourself in front of a green or blue screen, then edit it out (chroma key) in a video editor. Then place the video in your website and set it to auto-play.

Pros: i can't think of any.

Cons: I find it annoying, I don't want a website that talks to me. If someone is browsing in a coffee shop or other public space and it starts talking, they are going to exit the site straight away.
It's rare to see this type of thing on websites, probably for that reason.

I agree with Joe, if I am surfing the web the last thing I want to be bothered with is a flash intro or pop-ups.

If you do it, you may need to convert files. This site does it for free http://www.zamzar.com/

    Hi Oracle
I have to agree with the others. I have seen this on a couple of websites and I have to agree I am not a big fan. If you want to do something like that, why not create videos instead? You could add them to your website, create a youtube channel and build the followers that way? That then gives people the chance to watch them if they want, without it loading automatically in a place which might not be suitable for them to have the sound automatically played.

Not a fan of auto-play videos and/or sounds, and have never seen someone doing it in a subtle enough way to make me change my mind.

I appreciate the advice. So something like a youtube screen in the corner which people can decide to play or not would be better.

Any specific examples would be great to give me some ideas on how to approach it as I am not technically gifted and would be passing the idea on to a professional after possibly videoing it myself.
