I agree.
I do not think they should have a role in recent society, because what they bring is just a mental cancer, but they used to have a role. Times change.
Yday I talked for one of those guys whole night in tea room. The guy who is into stones/astrology/tarot and stuff like that - so generally he is a schizophrenic who used to be a shaman, if he survived centuries ago. I like all those thing btw. It is a power that opens up the mind, but that should be it. I have no problem to think that the earth is flat or that Jesus came back from death, but of course those things do not have to be taken literally (but they have to be taken seriously... exactly to avoid to take them literally).
In the end he told me about his arachnophobia and I asked him about his mother, because it is a known fact that people with fear of spiders have very weird bossy mothers who act like spiders towards close people. His mother is a teacher, which is something like a diagnose of flat-earther and once he had an incident, which was innocent he said, but after that he was taken by police to asylum.
What other people told me later is that the incident was not that innocent, because there were things like a knife involved.
Why I am telling this is that if we want to know why people come up with stupid theories (and also why they gamble), then we have to look inside: they behave to each other like enemies, even to those ones who they allegedly love. Then those theories or gambling are an escapism from such sad world. Those people have ****** up trust in their heads.
If you talk to God, you are praying; If God talks to you, you have schizophrenia.
