Default Foster kid snatched because dad plays poker

Social workers in the U.K. have removed a child from his foster home because the foster dad plays poker. The child's natural mother, who recently converted to Islam, says playing the game violates her beliefs and shouldn't be allowed.

Note: This story first ran last year (you can't tell that from the site -- another reason Buzzy doesn't like the Sun), but is still worth noting and discussing.

In my opinion, this in an invasion of human rights. The only way I could understand if the foster parents should be taken away is if the "dad" was clinically proven as a "problem gambler", and did not have enough money to support his family due to his gambling addiction.

I am sure there are many of us, even on this forum that play poker alot, have kids, and live a very good lifestyle, considering our circumstances.

As long as the child had the necessiities for life, including food, a safe home, and a good family, the government should not get involved in peoples personal entertainment.

    Hi,

after reading the article I'm torn. According to the authorities .. they asked him not to stop playing poker .... but to stop playing at home.

It was not said whether this was online or if he had a room full of players involved in a game.

I could see where that could be an unhealthy place for a child ... if that were the case.

bottom line to my thinking is .... why didn't he just stop playing at home?

Putting aside whether or not it was right to be playing in the presence of a child ..... I know if were my kids that were at stake .... it would be a no-brainer .... I'd simply have to adjust my playing time to coincide with times when the kids were away ...... and choose NOT to play at my home.

I do feel very sorry for (especially) the child and the foster parents so please don't think I'm not sympathetic. But I'd never have let the situation get to that point once I was warned not to be playing at home.
Almost Here! How would you like to be able to get not just one sign up from your player, or even a couple, but every single casino they join from here on? I've a plan that can make that happen and it will likely also tell you every time the player is active within the casino.

Authorities take everything out of context... Much like taking this quote. Part of democracy (in all democratic nations) is certain freedoms. Playing poker at home is in no way a threat to the child, unless the child is being neglected as a result...

I think the case here comes down to differences in religious beliefs... This is one of those sore spots/hot topics for me. Why are religions so intolerant of those who feel differently than they do. What if my religion says people not playing poker are heathens?
