Frank launches strike on UIGEA

This week Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), a longtime supporter of online gambling regulation, sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke urging them to delay the implentation of UIGEA regulations.

Frank's letter was supported by 18 members of the Financial Services Committee.

In Frank’s letter, he begins by detailing how the UIGEA rules were officially approved on January 19th, 2009, one day before current U.S. President Barack Obama took office. Specifically, he states:

“We realize this is not a task you requested. We also believe this is an unreasonable burden on regulators and the financial services industry at a time of economic crisis, and it contradicts the stated intent of the Financial Services Committee.”

It's stated that there were 18 supporters from the Financial Services Committee.

How many committee members total are there?

I was just curious to know what kind of percentage that was.

That's a move in the right direction. Let's see if they actually read it and listen to what Frank has to say.

Good to see Frank is keeping up the fight. Maybe tying this to the economic problems today is an angle that will work. Whatever works is fine by me for this ridiculous legislation that no one read or even knew about when they voted for it.

UIGEA Implementation Delayed by 6 months
UIGEA Regulations were supposed to be implemented on 1st December 2009. But a recent decision of US Treasury Department has deferred the implementation date. It has been decided that implementation of the UIGEA Regulations will be done on 1st June 2010.....
