Default gambling.com with PR0? please explain

I was cleaning up my links page at one of my sites and I noticed on checking that gambling.com has a PR0 with a white background.
I know we have discussed PR in these forums often, but a site that has been around as long as this one.
    Anyone got an explanation?
I can't believe they were banned or is my browser on the fritz and I am not reading the home page correctly.

It's not banned. The site still has pages in the index. However, I couldn't find it listed in the first 10 or so pages for the term "gambling" so I guess it's maybe picked up a penalty of some sorts.

You may be right with the paid links theory Aksana.

I guess it depends which datacentre you pick up and where you're located. Here in the UK, they are curently in 98th position.

As far as I'm aware, they have had the penalty for over six months, but the owners of the site (Media Corporation, listed on the UK stock exchange) still claim they don't know why they got it.

It's not been a pleasant ride for the shareholders - the price of their stock is down around 90% from the highs it made when they first acquired the site for $20m. The site used to make millions in profit for them, but from looking at their last results, it seems like they are now making a net operating loss

That's got to hurt a lot. When I did a search in Google, I couldn't find them in the top 40 results.

My guess is they suffered a -50 penalty due to paid links. Just a guess, but seems more likely the more I read on SEO forums.

Bottom line, the domain may be great for name recognition or type in traffic, but it does underscore the point that Google advocates have been preaching for years, the domain name is losing its dominant position for relevant keywords. While I am sure the domain is still a major factor, if portals engage in certain types of content (paid links), there will be repercussions. While I have no idea why gambling.com is currently PR0, or if it has even been penalized, it would seem that something is going on here. Message to affiliates, make sure to create content rich websites, which are original and link worthy, and refrain from purchasing or selling links on your site.

IMO this could not be more correct. If your not slapping down original, juicy, relevant content you will be penalized. If your artificially inflating your sites importance you will be penalized. Google has stated this over and over again.

Top points are given for originality.

Kind of puts a warning out to anybody trying to game Google!

I know of a leading UK Car Insurer that the same thing happened to. They were top 3 in the SERPS for "car insurance" and suddenly they were dropped.

Funny thing is that Google did not cancel their AdWords account, and the paid ads kept flowing, you gotta love 'em!
