Apparently dwell time will matter moving forward and affiliate websites may be impacted. This should be a sign of concern in the medium to long term for millions of properties earning off marketing.

I believe they'll be doing a lot of testing and adjusting. Don't think its weightage would be strongly felt initially.

Over time, perhaps yes.

And, that "over time" could be months and years.

Am I missing something but unless you have google analytics installed, or the visitor clicks back to the search results, then google would have no idea how long the visitor spent on your site.

There's also Google Chrome and they may have data sharing agreements with Mozilla and Safari. That alone covers up 80% of the market.

So, they could just do the "Pareto principle" on it.

if the online casino itself uses google analytics for instance google can do the math.
technically, they could even do that if an online casino would only use google font or jquery from a google location. not saying that they are doing that, or if that would be allowed or not (i did not check their terms on that)

That's a very real possibility.

Chrome has a permission setting for acquiring anonymous telemetry data. Likewise with FireFox. Don't use Safari, but pretty sure Opera also collects anonymous data too. All would require the 'user' granting permission.

And here's the rub... I don't but I'm sure most do allow it.

Some software these days have it. Hence, always best to select "custom install" if that option is available. That way you can uncheck the box allowing it, which you usually don't get shown if... you go with the generic install

Google has always maintained their apps and SE etc., etc., is for benefit of end-users. While I wouldn't call G dishonest, they seem to have a habit/culture of pushing boundaries to the line - just before it crosses into the... is this ethical realm.

Guys, don't get alarmed. These changes take months and sometimes years to fully take effect. And, this may be related to quality, not really dwell time. The guy specifically didn't mention that to begin with.

We're sort of assuming it from the way he wrote the entire thing.

There is a huge update every end of summer.. it's predictable, and every year many people get their traffic slashed this will be just the usual end of summer update

to add - it's not a new thing. I mean time on site, bounce rate are not new to Google algo (believed at least).
In terms of affiliation (where success is if the user finds quickly what he is looking for and moves on) - i am pretty sure that google knows how to figure that part out correctly.
