Going to office with a 100 years old subway shaking like hell

Hi,

On my way to the office ...

The subway of Buenos Aires celebrates very soon it's 100 years anniversary. The first line was built in 1913. The third subway after New York and London/Paris. Its was in the city's really good days back in the 20ties when it was one of the worlds most moderns cites... and maybe the climax of Argentinean prosperity ...

The same old cars are still working... they shake like hell. When it comes to a curve, the driver needs to slow down, if he wouldn't ....
On my first day I was in the first car with a nice view on the rails. Scared to hell. Like gambling about my life.

Why are they still working? Is it a museum on the road approach! No, lack of alternatives !!

100 years of subway - 100 years of progress !!??!!
What happened to this city/country?


I appreciate to share my thoughts and hope this may interest ether the one or the other ... and now back to work

The Tube (the London underground) has been around since 1860 and has had electric trains since 1893 - but I think they have upgraded it a few times since it was built!

You must be riding the A line, because the other lines aren't that rickety.

I've been on that BA metro and I thought it was actually really nice. The old wooden cars on that A line are amazing! I would definitely not want to trade that for some boring, plastic and stainless steel 2000 model.

I wasn't sure about if it was London or Paris. Now I'm not sure about Paris ... anyway... I leave it like that... the point is that here the some old wagons still working.

Exactly it is line A. And yes, they are beautiful. But going with it day by day at rush hour changes the view. I would prefer modern (quicker) cars.
And with the unbelievable mass of people inside - packed up like sardine's - you are looking at the screws of the old cars and start to think ...... please not now!!

No need to say sorry! I wasn't saying 'London was first' I was saying 'I am glad London updated their trains'. The original ones were steam trains with holes in the roof of the tunnel (up to the street above) to let out (some of!) the smoke and steam.

I haven't been into London for years (can't travel easily at all due to health issues) but if I did I think I would take taxi's everywhere. Last time I went into London the tube rides left me quite ill for a couple of days!

They are talking about aircon for the Tube, but then again they have been talking about that for quite some time now and it is still just talk.

Every time I go to London it really makes me feel lucky that I don't have to commute to work. That is one of the many cool thing about being an affiliate I work from home at hours that suit me( good thing i'm a workaholic cos I do some really long hours but when it good fun why not).
